Why not go to the projects and tell people not to do drugs? Tell the drug dealers they are hurting people and that they should stop. Better yet, tell people they shouldn't kill each other, that would even be a better place for peer pressure. Ask the street gangs to stop doing drive by's. Tell people to use birth control instead of having 8 kids by 6 different men. Tell people to not to have children they cannot afford to support. Tell people to love one another, to forgive and forget. Oh yea, someone already did that. They nailed him to a cross.

Tell the people with illegal guns they shouldn't have them and ask them kindly to turn them in. There has always been voluntary surrender, hows it working out? How many murderers do you think have turned in their guns? How many drug dealers? How many street thugs? Tell them if they shoot someone, they will go to prison. That's really a deterrent, isn't it? Look how many murders the death penalty stopped. Killers were afraid to kill because of capital punishment? Right.

I don't know who is arguing that most people should own a gun, I sure as hell never have. Gun ownership is a choice, and it definitely isn't for everyone. It's a big responsibility that I take quite seriously.

So what are you doing about it?

What do you think anyone should do about it, besides repeat yourself ad infinitum over a period of weeks and defend other posters who clearly have an agenda on this subject.

You all need to grow the hell up.

Your attack on the 2nd is never ending .......That is clearly your agenda. I refused to be neutered like you Brits are. .I could never see myself collecting stamps for the rest of my life. Now off to the gun club to send a few hundred rounds down range. Having the 2nd is the greatest freedom in the world. Later this week I will take a low light defensive class again. They are great classes to keep up ones skill level...

You should probably step outside your comfort zone and visit the UK. You might see that noone feels neutered, that noone goes around in fear of being victimised by criminal gangs.

There's more to life than guns.

I'm actually just off to the seafront with my camera to listen to some live music and get some shooting done.

If it gets reported, then there's a chance it may get removed. I'd like to leave it there for everyone to see.

Thank you for making my point. If you dare mention a fact. Your racist. Facts are not racist

If assault weapons disappeared tommorow , murder would nor drop 1%

Yet we can not even discuss rationally one of the biggest violence issues in America

Mention what fact? That if you stop the murderers murders stop? That's a great fact and one that clearly isn't racist, sexist, or in any way contentions. Now, do you have another fact that would help in some way?

I don't know who is arguing that most people should own a gun, I sure as hell never have. Gun ownership is a choice, and it definitely isn't for everyone. It's a big responsibility that I take quite seriously.

People do do all these things you've mentioned and apply peer pressure and education in all layers of society and believe it or not, it does make a difference. However, these are long term efforts, as changing the US gun culture would be. Closing your mind and saying it is how it is and can't change is not helpful but it is of course easy.

Telling people that they should hand their gun in is not what I said. I said that people who do own guns, and handle them responsibly should want to see a gun culture in the US where the gun fraternity as a body doesn't have a canary every time someone mentions that there is a problem with the volume of guns in US society that results in a loss of life and limb that could be avoided, quite patently is avoided in countries with lower concentrations of guns in the community at large and that far from continually increasing the number of guns in private hands, you should wish to see it decreased to the point that only those with a legitimate interest in shooting seek to own one.

You as a gun owner shouldn't fudge the arguments, and shake your head and say, well I am a responsible gun owner but I am not responsible for the criminals with guns so there's nothing I can do. You as gun owners collectively do have a resonsiblity to ensure that the message out there on what gun ownership means is accurate, gun ownership is not for everyone.

Unfortunately, you as American gun owners have decided that gun ownership is symbolic of 'real America' and promote gun ownership in ways that are completely ludicrous. You support the right for people to own guns for self protection when you know that unless a person has continual training and the threat occurs in a way that a gun could be used to mitigate against the threat (which you also know isn't likely to in a lot of instances), owning a gun is completely irrelevant to personal safety and most people should be advised that a gun for personal safety actually increases the likelihood of their being a gun incident in the household. However, you and far too many of your gun owning fraternity will not do that because of this idea that it is an American birthright and that somehow, actually telling people the reality of what it means to be a gun owner and net effect of having guns in the home is will threaten the right of those who do want to own guns for sound and legitimate reasons. That is how absurd it is in the US and until you as responsible gun owners grapple with that, the gun culture will not and cannot change. So yes, you are right, unless there is a will for peer pressure to have a positive effect, it will not have one.

Maybe in a couple of hundred years what you propose would work. It will do next to nothing in the next few decades, and we all know that. And don't lump me in with all gun owners, it's a generalization that you anti gun people like to make. Some people shouldn't have guns, many shouldn't have children either.
