It may be too early to ask about this but im scared of irs lol and i want to do the filing right for next year ;).My husband receives a non taxable social security and city retirement benefit and my expected income from end of september (first day of work) to december is around 5500-8000.Should we file jointly even if he is exempted?I am sorry if i sound very ignorant but i guess i am.lol The tax forms overwhelms me and when i checked the irs website it just confused me more because of some deductions,low wage earners exemptions etc.I hope somebody can shed light on this.Again,it may be too early and may need a trip to irs but any help would be appreciated.

If this will be helpful,my husband receives about $20000 this year for the ss and retiremebt.

So both our income will be around 25500-2800.

August 25,2014 Went to SSA to see what's going on with my SSC- SAVE has my middle name together with my first name.

August 28,2014 ELIS went from ACCEPTED TO OPTIMIZED IN PROCESS (INITIAL REVIEW)

September 2 Called local ssa and was told SSC was mailed/Elis says Green CARD production has begun

September 4,2014-received ssc

September 8,2014- green card mailed/closed on elis

September 9,2014- green card received yahooo!!

REMOVAL OF CONDITIONS

Mailed Packet: 4/29/2016

NOA1: 5/2/2016

Bio Appt: 6/1/2016

Approval:2/13/2017

Received 10 year green card:2/17/2017

If you use something like Turbotax or an on-line tax site, you can try both scenarios to see which puts you in a better situation. You can try it for 2013 tax year to get a feel if there are any signicant differences in tax liability (or refund) filing married jointly versus married separately...

Thank you for this.It is just so scary if they come after us.lol Ill try this on a tax website asap but usually hubby files through turbotax.Congratulations on your wedding btw! ;)
