2 years in jail? How much would that go against the teachings of Jesus? I'm betting the kid is sorry for what he did. What would Jesus do? Forgive him.

Why should he be sorry? I guess it might have been 'publicly indecent' if you are extremely puritanical but I can't really see why he should be sorry for a silly prank, no one was harmed, nothing was stolen, nothing was defaced, nothing has changed materially. The kid thought that the idea of sucking off jesus in statue form was funny. In a petty juvenile humor kind of way, it is.

Swallow?

2 years, and no time off for good behavior!

Why should he be sorry? Maybe because he was arrested? Maybe because he was embarrassed? Maybe because the incident embarrassed his family? Maybe because there will be court appearances? Maybe because his parents will end up spending thousands for a lawyer to get him off? Maybe because he will be teased about it for years? Being puritanical has nothing to do with it. Of course he thought it was funny. Until he got arrested. But you're right, nothing for him to be sorry about.

Oh, I see he should be contrite for being arrested for doing something embarrassing? No matter that it didn't result in any harm beyond whoever it is feels that mimicking oral sex is a crime of indecency. Next thing you know, he'll be on a sex register and banned from being in a 100 meter radius of his peers. It's loopy, and no, he shouldn't be sorry for being a victim of a bunch of crazy arsed religious nutters who think that his actions were blasphemous, such hypocrisy, such hyperbole and so typical of a certain type of curtain twitching mentality. No, I don't think he should be sorry for breaking a nonsense law and no one should expect him to be either.

Bewildered, certainly but not sorry.

you didn't follow the link in the first post. I was surprised because I made the same assumption you did before looking.

That really is funny, he shouldn't be arrested or have to face jail time. The statue is an offense to art and his creativity only improved it artistically. Anyone who was offended by that should consider joining a sheltered community. I think we have to conclude, only in (certain states in) America

Alas, due to the pile of moral decay existing in said teen's home, his ability to even think about being apologetic doesn't exist.

Way to go, Mom and Dad !

Who reads the story? Surely the best way to form opinions is to react the opinions of others? Do I really have to find out what actually happened now?

Nah - no need to do that - I have more fun actually assuming stuff, and then making stuff up to fit my opinion,

and finally,

being able to declare it's the parents fault.

I get there, in the end. It's easy. You can do it, also. I double-dawg-dare ya....

That state should instantly adopt Singapura's rules about use of caning for these types of crimes.

No, Really !

What types of crimes? He sat on the head of a not very lifelike or artistic statue of jesus and 'pretended' that jesus (the statue) was sucking his ####### whilst he was fully clothed. What type of crime is that, exactly? A crime against decency? A crime against the statue? He didn't damage the statue in any way, and, had someone not taken a picture of it and passed it along to others, probably on some kind of internet hosted medium, no one would have been any the wiser except his mates. This is less dangerous and criminal than scrumping yet you would have the boy whipped? Is this your version of morality? Whipping juveniles for having a juvenile sense of humor?

You're right, he probably has no regrets. He should be proud of being arrested. Ditto for his parents. Ditto for spending thousands on a lawyer. Actions have consequences whether they are fair or not. He has an arrest on his record until he's 18.

Who were you when you were here before, I've lost track.

It's not a crime.

It's a crime that they are trying to prosecute him for it.

i wonder how often district attorneys go after cases based on their ability to gain attention.
