Hello all!

January AOS filer here and my wait is aaaaaalmost over, as my green card is set to arrive today!

Quick question though… once I have that green card, is that all I need to get back into the USA if I go abroad? I've had a flight booked for next week for a while so I can travel with my husband while he goes away for work, and I was keeping my fingers crossed that I'd be able to go with him. So as long as I have my valid passport and a green card, is that all I need to travel? Or are there any other final steps to take?

I've read some things about people having to get stamps in their passport as a kind of temporary green card, but I guess as my USCIS update says my card is on its way then I don't need to do that?

Any clarification on this would be wonderful!

Good luck to everyone else out there still waiting! :)

Passport and GC is all. If you did not have GC then passport and AP would have worked before, no need to stay in the US until GC is received if you have AP.

I've done both with no problems.

Just to add, if your passport and GC don't have the same name, do bring your marriage certificate too. This is just to bridge the name difference [if any].

Congrats on the GC and safe travels! :)

Thanks everyone!!

I actually didn't get AP (I misunderstood what it was and thought it was for specific travel and not just for visiting, so I didn't want to risk traveling with it) so that's why I wanted to make extra sure that I'd be ok with my passport and GC.

Thanks for the tip, sweet cakes, my passport does have my maiden name so I'll be sure to take the marriage certificate with me!

So excited to go back to England and stock up on some of my favourite chocolate treats from home! (And see friends, of course, but let's be honest… I'm going for the chocolate.)
