well, ok..... lets do some Tarklar Math™

1600 for ticket. 1000-2000 for dental work vs. 6-7000 dental work here

You get 3 birds with 1 stone, she gets to visit, and gets off your back + nice teeth.

You get a month of liberty.....

Here's the real math

1600 ticket to manila

200 ticket manila to davao

2000 dentistry

1000 pasalubong (returning gifts filipino tradition)

1000 spending money in Philippines

5800 total

6-7000 dental work in USA

3-3500 insurance payment

3-3500 total in USA

Although it might pay to have the implants done when we go to the Philippines in March.

No way on god's green earth would that option ever fly with my wife. She'd soon be my ex wife if I seriously proposed it. Conversely its actually exactly what would have happened to her had we not met and married.

you can plant a tree for 15k :)

Considering the market, pretty sure it'll go for close to what we're spending or more too. If it went for only asking price I'd be surprised.

I like this house. I can see the potential and besides the oven not working and the electricity issue, (and some painted over dry rot.. super common here) I don't see any issues with it. We can make it our own, there's enough room to do so, but we don't have to fix anything. I'd like the whole main floor to be a big kitchen with a small dining area one day because really, who needs 3 living room/family room type areas? LOL!!! I don't even own a couch at the moment!

Inspector said the foundation, the roof, the windows, etc.. all were excellent. The front door needs some weather stripping, it doesn't quite meet the ground, and the attic only has 4 inches of insulation vs 12 for new homes. But it's also not as well circulated as newer homes either so a few fixes to get it done but the main thing is to get an electrician in there to look at the outlets. If they're fine, then hubs can go tighten them every so often. It is a 1974 after all. I like that its only 2 bedrooms. I like the lower level with the two areas and the fire place. I like that hubs has his man cave. T

At least we have a list of things to do to the house like a new furnace (it's likely original, but it's still working which shows they don't build them like they used to!) A/C, fence, and tree trimming.

As for the box outside, people look at me funny when I ask if that is normal here. In Canada you never have the switches outside. Besides it being a) a safety issue (someone else can turn your breakers off?!?!) it's b) too cold in most of Canada. You risk frost in the box.

all things aside. Where you are, in 1974, no one was gonna mess with the boxes outside. It may be there for fire dept access.

The weather has a lot to do with local codes.

In NYC, the wiring codes are super tough. Such as using BX-AC90 wiring. Rat proof, weather proof.....

Every breaker is a special type (40 bucks each) and all outlets are GFI.

The electrical work in a 3000 square ft house will cost upwards of 40k

The mortar used in foundations are also different. In the north, we use Type S mortar, as well as Type S portland cement used in concrete, It's waterproof, therefore not susceptible to freeze cracking.

ok, to breakfast with thuggy friends in the construction trade.....

Oh talk about construction.....look out for Galvanized drainage pipes. The absolute worst material possible. All the horizontal pipes will rot thru right about now. Wrought black iron and PVC are preferred.

ours are all PVC and the sewer line was redo in 2007. :)

I can always lock the breaker box too. :)

mini rant:

so I thought linkedin was for professional things not dating...I had gotten 4 men asking me out on a date (now how little do they know I have gained weight since and pretty much feel like michelin tire) but yes....wth !

Is better to turn the dates into professional linkages for future usage. Yes, it'll mean you're not becoming a courtesan, but that's not the point.

I'm leaving work early to go to the dentist today. I don't like going to the dentist. Maybe I need a drink of something stronger than coffee.

Make my coffee, then.
