We are not anti-foreign workers (foreigners who do manual, physical tough work).

We are anti the so-called "Foreign Talents" ( Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians), with dubious degrees and depress the local wages. It has come to a point where companies hire these foreign talents because they are cheaper, not because they are better than locals.

And these "Foreign Talents" tend to hire their own kinds and push the locals out of the company.

There is one MNC bank which is overwhelming filled with certain Nationality only.

Talk about being discriminated in your own country.

That's happening all over the world. The tech sector in the USA has taken a big hit because of the same importation of talent. Although here we seem to also blame and hate the illegals that do the work most Americans don't want to do too.

I've always thought that in order to collect unemployment there really should be no jobs available. If there is farm work, you should be made to take farm work, etc.

So say if my 4' 10" 95 lbs wife lost her job, she should take a job lifting 100 lbs bales of hay to feed cows?

No, but she could pick produce or work in the milking parlor. There are plenty of non office jobs around that no one wants to do. They can't seem to find anyone up here to work the laundry at the retirement home even with full benefits.

FTR, I can lift 100 lbs, not easily, but can do. No excuse, am I right?

Actually I think you're wrong. People are not interchangeable robots suitable for any job. A person with higher skills that takes a job in a low skill area rare is able to come back to that higher skilled area to work. Just put on your resume Engineer for 10 years here, Engineer for 5 years here, then follow it up with 2 year picking produce. That resume is gonna hit the round file 99 if not 100% of the time for another engineering job. I've seen it, as I see resumes coming into our company all the time, and it doesn't have to be such a big difference as engineer to produce picker either. I've seen engineer to plant maintenance worker, and they never get another shot at engineer again.

I could not repeatedly lift bales of hay. My back would go out the first day. Same could be said for picking produce. And am I supposed to commute 40 miles to this farm for less than a quarter of my wages? I'd be loosing money every day, let alone be able to keep my bills paid, meaning I'd default on them. What about those who don't have a car? Are they supposed to travel 40 miles to a farm to pick produce? How, walk there on Sunday and sleep outside all week, then walk home through Friday night? What if they have kids that need caring for and getting off to school? Are they supposed to travel from the twin cities to northern Minnesota to wash clothes at minimum wage? And if one did have to go through this first before getting unemployment, how are they going to find a job in their chosen career again?

In that respect, then yes, you are right, but let's look at it from another angle. Let's say a certain technical or other field is over saturated with qualified applicants to the point that some of them are jobless for 2+ years. Let's then say that there are fields, with minimal skill requirements, that have immediate job openings and pay livable wages if the person is willing to take a hit salary wise.

Let's then say that there are fields, with minimal skill requirements, that have immediate job openings and pay livable wages if the person is willing to take a hit salary wise.

What would the job prospects really be of the long term unemployed and why should we continue to support them when there are jobs available to them now?

Historically, if people didn't work they didn't eat and with jobs to work, I don't see any excuses as to why people can not accept that not everyone gets to be an office worker.

But people cannot sit on unemployment for two years, unless congress passes a special law to allow greater than 6 months. This has only happens in times of big recessions, when its hard to say which jobs are coming back. People in dying or over populated fields generally can see it coming on their own, and they don't need to government forcing them to take jobs they don't want to work in.

I would also point out that unemployment isn't really paid the government. Businesses are assessed a certain percentage of their payroll to pay for unemployment insurance. If a company has a history of many layoffs, their rates go up. If an industry has a higher percentage of layoffs than another, they will pay higher rates. The government might collect the money and pay it out, but what is being paid out is paid for by businesses that employ people. Unless an act of congress steps in to increase the maximum term because of a severe recession. Which I recall only happening twice in my life time.

Historically we also sent our old out into the woods to die when they couldn't work to. Or left newborns we couldn't feed out in the woods to die. Lots of things have been historically done, it doesn't mean we need to do them today.

Sue them for having practiced veterinary medicine without a license, sue man.

sprayed, I meant sprayed, it was a typo. She was spayed before I got her

Feeling a bit 'off' today. Got through some emotional stuff earlier in the week, resembling catharsis (which can be useful) , had a echat with the wife this morning (not useful, really) and we seem determined still to file for divorce on the 1st. Seriously, mostly ok today, sitting on campus and doing some business/remote work - I don't wanna go home or to any of my garden spaces today.... Nice distractions on campus (but that's not the point, aye?)

I dunno - in the end, after 8 years of carrying her in my heart, it's going to be a nasty shock if/when the divorce is finalized (in Texas, that's 90 days after filing if uncontested)...

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
