I don't know what kind of super viking I'm growing, but I feel like I've been run over by a freight train. At least the super acne has died down some.

Moved to the US - with no debt (worked like a crazy person for the whole year of immigration process to make sure I paid off all student loans and credit card debt ect) plus I took a redundancy package on my stable staff job which gave me a whole year of income plus three months paid leave.

Despite having the whole (I thought) money talk before we got married,when I arrived discovered my husband had severe credit card debts plus really heavybstudent load repayments.

I have used all my savings/retirement ($90,000+) over the last six years to supplement our income because I have not been working full time but that doesn't seem to count.

Also we live in a 19th century log cabin in the middle of the country in Virginia, our only heat is a wood stove in winter and there is no air con in summer. It's not an easy life. Sometimes it's under 20F inside when we get up in the morning, in winter I spend all day stacking the wood stove, somedays I do all our cooking on the top of the woodstove. Some winters it's been so cold during the day that I wear my full ski gear inside the house all day.

I do all the cooking, cleaning, laundry, 80 percent of the childcare, 50 percent of the vegetable gardening and work 20-24 hours a week online as a website manager.

You did not imagine having the money talk before marriage.

You were lied to. Not just about money. It comes down to character: what they are willing to perpetrate upon another person. They're going to say that they did it out of their love for you. They were afraid they were going to lose you so lying about something so terribly important to you actually proves how deep their love is. It's absurd of course, the exact opposite of what love is and indeed yes - if you knew what kind of person they were then you would not have married them. So it comes down to deceiving someone into marrying you.

Would you do that to someone? Of course not. It would be unthinkable to you.

The tactic he used is called the double-bind: put you in a situation where once you come over here and discover the truth you have only two losing choices: go back home, and face the wreckage of having made the mistake, or as you said put a stiff upper lip on it and tolerate having been lied to about what kind of person this is. The most important thing to understand about this is how carefully he thought through making sure to get you over a barrel before letting you find out.

Student loan debt, house debt, but most especially credit card debt: that's not some accidental lightning bolt that hits people randomly. It goes to what kind of person you are. The choices you make. Your choice was to work like an ox financially before coming over and his choice was to conceal debt from you until it was too late, after you had already told him how important avoiding debt was to you.

From that alone it's pretty bad but with beating you down to the point where no amount of work you do is enough for him to even acknowledge your effort..... gah! He knows better than you do how absurd it would be to pay day care, commute, be away from your daughter, etc. - the point is to make you feel bad. The most financially responsible person is made out to be the problem by the person who is the least financially responsible.

That's how they work. No conscience whatsoever. Since you have a conscience, exploiting yours is a cakewalk.

Well my thoughts are that no amount of explaining, arguing, or pleading is going to matter. Working harder too - all of these are just going to exhaust you. What you do is lay down conditions. Boundaries. Along with what you are doing if they are not met. You better be prepared to follow through. The fact you let him get away with such a devastating deception was bad precedent. They keep returning to strategies that work. Children are a classic double-bind too and you have already explained why. Put up with abuse in order to keep the kids in the abusive marriage instead of a broken marriage where the wife has control of her life back.

It isn't easy. But you have to stand up for yourself. People can be made to change when they are facing consequences they don't want. It doesn't mean threatening divorce recklessly. Whatever it is, do it openly and above board instead of something like cutting off sex and refusing to say why- thinking that he will get the message you are refusing to put into words. Tell him. This is not making me happy. STFU about me working outside the home. Not another word or - [condition].

Such a person understands consequences.

1. I'm laying out the pieces tonight, tinker-toy fashion, making the cuts at the farmhouse, building a wall at a time. Final construction will be 'nail walls together and put the roof on'. I really like the idea of the opening wall as well.

1. I retrospectively recall observations of Mrs. T-B.-to-be's lifestyle quirks that have definitely carried over as quirks in her lifestyle as Mrs. T-B. that I have observed, she man.
