That looks like a Taliban shishkabob cart...

Eh - I need a change of scenery, quickly, or I'm gonna implode.

I've an unused piece o land just north of downtown, gonna build this beast this weekend, and put it there. I actually have all of the materials that I need already, so I'm bring em all there tonight, gonna build on site, start using it Sunday.

I ain't downsizing, but I need to be in a minimalistic space for the rest of the semester. And I'm not interested in being comfortable at a hotel. I can't stay in the 2 houses anymore, it's full of bad memories and they be very recent.

Plus it'll be fun to bike in every morning. And I not need a building permit for this thing.

Wish me luck, as I'm laying out the pieces tonight, tinker-toy fashion, making the cuts at the farmhouse, building a wall at a time. Final construction will be 'nail walls together and put the roof on'. I really like the idea of the opening wall as well.

My only real concern is what to sleep on, but I have a futon thingie that's comfy.

Actually if I start showing her pictures of finished products before telling her what they're made of, I might pull her out of her preconceptions. Philippines is on the ring of fire, with plenty of small earth quakes. Those concrete homes they favor tend to show cracking after not too long. Also sand and gravel is expensive, so the mixes they use make for very weak concrete. Wood gets termites and rot, so shipping containers might be perfect for the structure. I would just need to figure out whats a good finishing material for the inside and outside?

look - think of a 'good house' in the PI as really a carport or a patio, with removeable walls.

Stick with a pole design, then once you have it in the shape of the house I showed you, tell her - oh, sorry, this is made from heavy metal and earthquakes not affect anything.

Try to get a good quote on the crane you'll need for placement - usually that's the biggest expense if going 2 or more stories.

hello all...so I packed up the car yesterday in preparations (the fam stayed this week they had some issues with things) and the FIL tells me today that MIL finally figured out I am not taking the hubs with and calls him up and goes "well now i am pissed off" so I tell him "is it because she thought she was finally going to get rid of him and I will baby him next and clearly i am not going to do that?" and he goes "well yeah and she thought that if he just apologized it would all be fine no matter if you are right or not (since she is assuming i am in the wrong here )."

Oh I wish she would come up to talk to me about how pissed she is.....cause I don't do well with not voicing my opinion.....I would ..... :ranting::ranting::ranting::ranting:

Also....good job on finally realizing something is up....took her only what....a couple of months ? Talk about oblivious and unaware....lord....

*rant over

When my house was built, certain critical joints were epoxy reinforced with epoxy made for use in California.

Check out some materials science and technologies from buildings in Cali.
