THIS QUESTION PERTAINS TO I-134 WHERE I HAVE TO LIST MY ANNUAL INCOME. I AM SELF-EMPLOYED. ON MY 2006 FEDERAL TAX RETURN, I HAVE LINE 22 (TOTAL INCOME) AND I HAVE LINE 37 (ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME). WHICH AMOUNT DO I WRITE ON MY I-134 FOR MY ANNUAL INCOME? LINE 22 OR LINE 37? BOTH AMOUNTS ON LINE 22 AND LINE 37 ARE OBVIOUSLY DIFFERENT. I HAVE RESEARCHED THROUGH THE FORUMS AND I HAVE FOUND CONTRADICTING ANSWERS. I WISH TO AVOID MY I-134 BEING DENIED BECAUSE THE WRONG AMOUNT WAS WRITTEN ON THE I-134. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE A REPLY TO THIS QUESTION FROM SOMEONE WHO IS SELF-EMPLOYED AND HAVE SUBMITTED THEIR I-134 RECENTLY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME! :)

Line 22 Total income, because this is what will be shown on your 1099 form that you use to file your taxes. :)

I agree it is line 22 but there is not necessarily any correlation to what a 1099 might indicate particularly if you reported you self-employed income via Schedule C because you will be netting your deductible expenses against your income.

I will receive a 1099 for $15,000 and will report $10,000 of expenses so only $5,000 of the net income will make it to my 1040 and included in my total income (line 22)

For What It's Worth...I have a friend that is self-employed, just like myself, and he has his fiance here last week from Russia.

I asked him about AOS and he told me this:..He had worked for another company for 5 years grossing about 26K a year. He had been self-employed for a little over a year when his fiance went for her interview recently.

He used the 1099 for last year and three income tax returns for 3 years from his previous employment. His 1099 showed 38K for his first year as being self-employed.

At his fiance's interview the CO made a remark to her that it seems her fiance is doing much better self-employed than working for the other company.

His fiance said that is all that was said about his support for her. Her visa was approved.

I'll be useing a 1099 also.
