I didn't have a signed letter of intent from my fiance (for the I-129 F application packet) so I wrote one from myself and also had the pastor who will be marrying us write a letter stating our intent. Do you think this will be an issue? He was back in Malawi, so it would literally be months before I could get something with his actual signature on it. Do you think they'll RFE us on that?

They normally do send a RFE for that. Maybe a letter from your pastor will help, but you can't know for sure. What I'd do is have your fiance send a letter of intent to you now and in case you get a RFE in a few months, you'll have the letter by then.

Also, please :time: it helps others a lot :)

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum.

Due to the vagueness of the new Form I-129F instructions, http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-129finstr.pdf , it may or may not be acceptable. A lot may depend on the rest of your relationship evidence, and on the individual USCIS adjudicator. Agree with previous poster that suggested that you still get your fiancé to send you an original letter of intent in anticipation of a possible RFE.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Maybe it's possible for you to submit his letter undated and unsigned and attach something saying the beneficiary will sign it during the interview? I don't know if this would be an issue for them, though. It was a major inconvenience to get my fiance to send his letter with his signature, but I decided I would rather wait for the mail than to risk an RFE tby having him scan his signature.

That's good info. Thanks! I might have to see if anyone we know is coming/going from where he lives soon. I know when I lived there I'd receive mail that was sent from up to 4 months beforehand. I'll go ahead and work on that. I just sent in the application today, so I'm in a bit of a panic about the whole ordeal. It seems so daunting!
We sent a good deal of evidence, such as photographs together (one in front of the White House), plane ticket receipts in his name from expedia, letters from friends and family, etc. We don't have boarding passes anymore, so I don't know how to handle that. I'm just praying they decide it's enough. We're already pushing the limits for the timeframe we had in mind!

More than likely, yes you will receive an RFE. You have included a statement of intent to marry, which is evidence that YOU are legally free and willing to marry. You do not have a statement that says your fiancé is legally free and willing to marry. The statement from the pastor is not enough, USCIS needs more solid evidence. They need to hear from your fiancé that he has the intention of getting married. The letter of intent is what they are looking for.
