I'd email consular consularwindho@state.gov and ask if they process immigrant visas. From what I've seen on their website, http://windhoek.usembassy.gov/visa_services.html they process non-immigrant visas so if they don't in fact process IVs, you may have to go to SA.

According to this: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/visas-issuing-posts.html#n

Immigrant Visa interviews are not conducted at the Embassy in Windohoek; the links shows only non-immigrant visas (NIV) are issued there.

The lawyer who stated that the interview will likely take place in Johannesburg was correct.

Hi guys, I sent in the I-130 already and on question #22 on I-130 which asks which consular post abroad the relative will apply for a visa with, I did put Windhoek even though they don't process immigrant visas and the nearest embassy that does so is Johannesburg - will they correct this for me?

Also, I am concerned that I won't be receiving anything via postal mail as our mail system is unreliable. I did put our P.O. box on the I-130, but left it out on the cover letter. . . should I change my address online to a U.S. address so correspondence gets sent there? I received the e-mail notification that they received my I-130, but what if I get an RFE and how will I receive my NOA2? Will they also rely on email for this or is it necessary to receive hard copies? I sent in a G-1145 so was hoping everything would be sent via email but am very concerned now.

I'm not sure about your first question - they might give you an RFE for it, or they might not. Someone else may better clarify.

Regarding the communication, it looks like you've already received an email from USCIS, so they have processed your G-1145. You'll receive all correspondence through email, although they will probably still try to send hard copies. I used my address here in Chile (equally unreliable postal service) and I only received my NOA2 months after I was notified online. The hard copies are NOT necessary if you are receiving the information via email (which you are - don't worry!).

I saw another question you posted regarding NVC and getting your case number (when you reach that point). As someone suggested, just buy Skype credits or a phone card to call and get your case number and provide your email if that makes you more comfortable. However, I think USCIS will automatically forward the information to NVC (that was my case - they knew my email address when I called). I think your dad can call, too (as you mentioned in another forum). In any case, once NVC receives it, they will send you a "welcome letter" via email which will include your case number, Invoice ID number (INI) and a beneficiary ID number.

I don't know what address you want to use, the PO box should be fine as should the US address, but a foreign address is also fine. I would just use ONE address and be consistent with it during the entire process. Good luck! As a personal note, I suggest that you breathe a little and relax! This process is going to be long and there is no need to waste all your energy right away. Just be consistent and meticulous and do all your research.

Have you filed US taxes for the last three years? Do you have all your NVC documents? Start reading the NVC wiki that is linked above. Get everything ready to go for the next steps.

Hi - Yes, I have U.S. taxes filed for the last 3 years - I've only been living here for like 5 months. I've started looking ahead at the I-864 and that's a whole other set of problems hahaha. I am unsure of my circumstances since I am working overseas and whether or not to report that income as my annual salary or report "0" - any familiarity with that? And my mom is using retirement benefits to qualify as a joint sponsor so that's also confusing me. Sigh, but I'll get to all that. If you feel confident about your I-864 knowledge and have a similar situation to mine do you mind if I message you with some AOS questions?

Go ahead and send me a message with any questions you have. I'll try my best to help you out. I just got all my AOS and IV documents approved and sometimes it can be hard to sort through all the good and bad information on VJ. That being said, every case is different so any advice would purely be from my experience and from what I've read.

As a note, you can include your salary on the I-864 under current income, but that amount cannot be used as part of the financial support, since that income presumably will not continue once you move to the US. It is a bit tricky, but having the joint sponsor will make up for all of that.
