Hi all,

So I have my interview on Monday and I thought everything was fine and ready but the more I read on the subject, the more I am stressing out about the financial matters. My fiancé is a writer is Los Angeles which - you will have guessed- means that he juggles with a few part time jobs. His "main" one is as waiter in a restaurant but he also has a seasonal job as fundraiser at the opera. I have some savings (I should have about 8K by the time of my move - hopefully end of the year - and he has 3K savings in cash) and we both know that I am going to be the one with the 9-5 job as I am not pursuing a creative career. On the affidavit of support he put his last year income (20K) which I think puts us above the poverty limit.

So for the interview I have: a letter from his boss at the restaurant saying that his job is permanent and how much he is earning per hour and for how long he has been employed, two pay slips, loooot of statements from his bank, and the signed affidavit of course. I don't have anything about his seasonal employment at the opera and I don't have any tax documents from him (but I think they are not necessary because he's not self employed?) and I also don't have anything from him about the savings that he has in cash.

Do you guys reckon it's going to be enough? Or should I get more from him? If I do, are copies/emails/scans enough given how last minute we are now? His family is extremely supportive and they assured us that they would help us in case of problem so I guess we could ask them to be co-sponsors if needed... I just thought that because we were above the poverty limit we shouldn't worry too much but now I realise that I might have been a tad stupid... and with the interview on Monday, there's a very limited amount of stuff I can do/documents I can gather.

ARGH.

Thank youuu

Lucie

You can use a scan/email of his savings if you want more financial info. Also take your savings proof. London will consider any of that if in doubt, and it might make you less nervous to take some extras in your bag to pull out if needed.

I didn't get asked for any proof what so ever, she just asked for the support form and that was it, I was a tad worried as I only took a letter from the employer.

Oh wow so you just handed in your I134 when you arrived and they didn't ask you any question during the interview?

We do give first our documents to the person at the reception before the interview, right?

His savings are in cash so do you think an email from him telling me how much he has would help?

Yeah you basically give your documents in then sit down until your interview. The interviewer never mentioned anything about any of it. I can guarantee you will be way more prepared than I was so if I got approved than you shouldn't have any worries.

Yeah, I know. I think he's just trying to prevent himself from spending it but I did tell him to put in on his account as well.

Anyway, he sent me his tax return just now and it shows 23K for 2013 instead of the 20K he put on the affidavit. (He told me that as his income fluctuates he wanted to give a realistic projection for this year) Would that be a problem in any way? Or a good proof to include? What do you think?

Thank you!!

Lucie

Tax return sounds great. London will not interrogate you over every nickel and dime. Turn in the form and the tax return and you probably won't even discuss it with the interviewer.
