GOP Congressman: "We can denounce it if it goes bad, and praise it if it goes well and ask what took him so long"

Democratic leaders in the Senate and Republican leaders in the House want to avoid a public vote to authorize force, fearing the unknown political consequences eight weeks before the midterm elections on Nov. 4.

“A lot of people would like to stay on the sideline and say, ‘Just bomb the place and tell us about it later,’ ” said Representative Jack Kingston, Republican of Georgia, who supports having an authorization vote. “It’s an election year. A lot of Democrats don’t know how it would play in their party, and Republicans don’t want to change anything. We like the path we’re on now. We can denounce it if it goes bad, and praise it if it goes well and ask what took him so long.”

Spineless leadership on both sides of the aisle.

It's the flip flop dance all over again... They were for it before they were against it and that was then but this is now...

The only way the US will be able to do anything is by calling together a coalition - a real one, with significant nations this time around - to fight ISIL and other terrorist groups.

Spineless leadership on both sides of the aisle.

This is what's so great about being that much smarter and experienced than the authors of the constitution who required Congress to declare war.

No sense in having sober debate and accountability. We're so smart we've been letting presidents just waltz into war whenever they feel like it.

And besides, they (the founders) didn't have any experience with war. Not war with the greatest military power on earth. Not guerilla war with Indians. If they had been involved in war, it certainly wouldn't have been with unconventional forces and tactics.

Seriously though, what difference does it make that they served themselves in war? Losers like George Washington. Lol. You remember all that whining at Valley Forge? We're just all-around better people than they were. Jefferson- what a douche. So what if he knew more than a millennia of history - it was already outdated by the time he was in office. I doubt he'd make level 3 on Super Mario Brothers.

We are so much more advanced then they were that we let our government just ignore the constitution and do what it wants. Because having to follow all those rules and regulations - that's not freedom. We're all about freedom. So we want a government with the freedom to do whatever it wants.

I say give money to Iran and let them deal with ISIS.

Yes, I spelt it with an 'n' at the end.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Iran is already acting as one of our ground forces.

http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/09/09/4338624/obamas-islamic-state-strategy.html

U.S.-Iranian talks on the Islamic State are kept very quiet, but evidence crops up in occasional leaks or news items. One recent example is the emergence of a photo that purported to show Iranian spymaster Qassem Suleimani with Iraqi Shiite militiamen near Amerli, where U.S. warplanes had just helped to break a months-long siege. Put more simply: Americans provided the air cover and Iranian-backed militias provided the ground forces to retake territory from the Islamic State.

For years the war mongers have been screeching about how horrible Iran is. Here we are allied with them as our infantry. It is an old, old story. Al Qaeda is our ally in Afghanistan, our enemy, then our ally again in Libya, then our enemy again... likewise with Iran.

I doubt the President is going to announce that Iran is our infantry.
