Hi everybody! my son had his interview yesterday at the US embassy in Philippines but received 221g for a 2013 W2 for from my husband who is the petitioner. What is frustrating is I have received the email one week before the interview from the US embassy in Manila requesting this document (latest 2013 W2) so I made sure we had the document. Made sure a day before the interview that my son have it with him ready for his interview the next day. Since my husband has different sources of income, I had also included his latest 1099-R (equivalent to W2) and statement of annuity.

During the interview, they asked for it but since my son is a kid he doesn't know what that is (my fault as I have not coach him what the W2 looked like) so the evaluator and eventually the consul looked at the pile of documents we prepared for him. They did not see the W2! wth!@! ---- so after the interview, they told him they are going to send an email to me to send the missing document which is lo and behold, the W2!!!. And they informed my kid and his dad that once I sent the document they should send it back through 2Go. What really disturbs and confuses me now is, are they looking for another W2??? - I kept pestering my husband asking if there is another W2 but he said that there is no other version of W2!

I do not understand how can they miss the document from the papers my son brought with him!

Now, I do not know if we should send what he has all along at the interview or what...somebody had any experience the same as ours???

W2s come in all types of shapes and sizes. They are very easy to fall out of a packet or file, if its the original. I know when I did through my old taxes the dang things are always falling out of the files. It probably would have been easier had you provided the tax transcripts from the IRS, then the W2's are not required.

I would have your husband collect all his W2's and 1099-R's, and get the tax transcripts from the IRS, and send copies of both. This way if your husband has forgotten about one, or it simply got misplaced before the interview by your son, you will have covered all the bases.

Hi Caryh, the document is still with my son. It has not been lost, the embassy just didn't see it. I don't know how can they not see it when the consul looked at his documents. We provided all 3 years tax transcripts at the NVC stage. My son has copies of it too with him during his interview... that is what bewildering, he has it all yesterday. Wonder what W2 are they looking for or they did not look at the papers hard enough?? sigh... he has to arrive here since he is already late for school...

ouch that really hurts. I'd seriously try to contact the embassy and try to talk to someone in the know on your case. It sounds like the wrong 221g was given to your son. If he only worked one job, there would only be one W-2, two jobs then two W-2's. It shouldn't be rocket science to figure out. But then again, if he still has the W-2's and tax transcripts, they obviously didn't take the W-2's and took the Tax returns rather than the tax transcripts.

I think I will have to call the embassy today but what to tell them...that my son has the W2 all along with him yesterday and that they didn't see it? My husband has only one job now so only one W2, the other source of income are retirement pensions so I had included those as well...They just kept saying yesterday that he is missing one document which is the W2 evident by their latest email to me last night....this is very frustrating and confusing...figuring out what went wrong or who was wrong...

If you want to make sure you can easily get a copy of W2 online. Your husband can just register online (for free, on the IRS website), I assume that is the same site where he also got the tax transcripts.

And yes, call the embassy to clarify things.

Good luck!
