Hello,

My wife's initial green card will expire on 12/12/2014. We've already submitted the paper works along with I-751, and is now waiting for the interview for the 10 year green card. I've checked on the time line for USCIS, and they're showing 6 months for the Vermont service center. We're going on vacation on November 12th, a month before her green card expires. We will be coming back on November 2th, before the green card expires, so we're not worried about getting back. Would be it be helpful if I write a letter to USCIS stating to please speed up the process since we're going on vacation?

Thank you

They will not speed up your ROC because you're taking a vacation out of the country. This is partly why they send the extension letter in case you need it. Hopefully you have the extension letter before leaving the country, it would be best to carry it with you in case your return gets delayed. BTW most people do not get an interview on removing conditions. The biggest worry will be if your biometrics appointment gets scheduled for when you'll be out of the country.

So her green card is already expired. Have you checked why the removing of conditions is taking so long? My wife removed her conditions via CSC this year, and she had her approval before her two year card expired, less than 90 days. Do you really have an interview scheduled? Interviews are not that common with ROC.

We called the Baltimore USCIS office about 1 month ago, and they told us so far, we're on the normal timeline. Our case was moved from Vermont to Baltimore. Just to clarify, we're waiting for her 10 year green card.

I checked the status online, and this is what it says:

The CRI89 PETITION TO REMOVE CONDITIONS OF PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS RECEIVED was transferred and is now being processed at a USCIS office. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

During this step, USCIS initiates the background checks of the applicant/petitioner and identifies issues that may need to be addressed either during an interview or by asking the applicant/petitioner to submit additional information or documentation. USCIS reviews the applicant's/petitioner's criminal history, determines if there are national security concerns that need to be addressed, and reviews the application/petition for fraud indicators.

So you were scheduled for an interview, and Vermont passed it on to your local office to set up the interview. Baltimore doesn't show any stats for ROC interviews, but the few things they show stats on show a year processing time. Your best shot of moving this along is to schedule an infopass at Baltimore, both go to it and inform them in person about your upcoming trip and ask for a new extension letter and stamp in her passport to cover you for your trip. If you're lucky, they'll decide this is good enough to meet their interview needs and the 10 year card might get approval then and there.

You should update your profile and fill in your timeline. Right now your profile shows you working through the CSC and your timeline does not even show her visa approval, let alone when you filed to remove conditions.
