Hi,

I did the interview on 08/12/14 and everything was okay Alhamdullah. The officer asked me to bring an updated police certificate later to process my visa. I dropped that document in the same day in the embassy gate.

On the 08/18/14 I saw on visa status site that my case is on AP.

It's been almost a month since my interview and still no word from the Embassy.

they haven't gave me any information where to get the visa or how to pay UPS.

Please help if you have any idea

Hello Till your case comes out of AP you will not get info on how to pick up your visa and pay the UPS fees. AP can take some time. Keep checking the status and when it changes out of AP you will see some movement. Have you contacted the Embassy to get a status.

Hope this helps in answering your question.

AP is unfortunately an open ended process. It can be a few weeks, months or be a year or more. Although, if it has been an unreasonable amount of time a Writ of Mandamus can be filed, to in a sense force the embassy to make a decision. Try to relax. My husband is in AP too.

This is my experience with AP in Algeria for k1...Husband (fiancé at the time) had interview was given a 221g form at the interview and put on AP. We heard nothing from the Embassy other than confirming the AP, at 60 days I sent an email asking for an update about 2 weeks later I received an email stating that his visa was being processed, total time in AP about 2.5 months. AP is different for everyone, but it is not uncommon in Algeria here is the email I used if you want to send them an inquiry (I used it last year so hope it is still current) IV-DValgiers@state.gov

Good luck

My husband and I have been in AP since August 14, the day of our interview. We needed to submit a new police certificate and a photocopy of his previous passport. I attended the interview and was able to ask the consular officer how long it would take to issue the visa. She said it depends on the caseload at the embassy, and of course every case is different.

The US travel docs website for Algeria says that immigrant visa applicants should wait 60 to 120 days before making an inquiry on their case. My plan is to wait the 60 days, and if we're lucky the visa will be issued during that time. If not, I'm going to have my congressman check the status of our case, and if possible do an expedite. I already sent in all the authorization forms needed at my congressman's office.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Everyone for the information.

My wife and i have been in this process for over a year (Filed 1-130 in May 2013) and it's just been really frustrating that it takes THIS long. I understand security and background checks, also the sheer volume of visas that are applied for to go to the US. I guess i just assumed for a IR1 or even a K1 visa that the process would be much faster due to my wife being a citizen.

agbcha, Can you tell me more about the how to get your congressman involved? My wife is from Colorado, so obviously we need to contact her Senator, but just the general steps you took, so IF we take longer than 60 days (yes, I plan to contact them again after 60 days, too) we can use this as our next step? Any information is useful. Thank you.

I completely understand your frustration. Me and my husband filed in April 2013 and are stuck in AP now since September 1st. They say we get priority as citizens but it still takes way longer than it should.

To contact your senator or congressman have your wife find the represtantive for the District she lives in in Colorado. On their websites you can usually find a link for citizen services/help. You have to fill out an authorization form for them to be able to inquire about your case. Send that and a letter or email describing what you need and they should get back to you fairly quickly.

Just wanted to post an update. We're still in AP, but today we got the following email from the embassy:

Dear Madam/Sir,

The document that you submitted has been received. Once they will be reviewed by a consular officer We will let you know as soon as we do so which should be in the near future.

.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Regards,

Consular Team,

US Embassy, Algiers
