I am very nervous about this process and I was curious as to what info needs to be provided to my fiance and the at my interview in the UK with regards to work history. How much does it matter and what kind of checks do they do with/using your CV/Resume?

Thank you very much for any help.

Do you mean the work history of the beneficiary or the petitioner?

Sometimes if the beneficiary has worked in a field 'of interest' connected with possible issues of national security they ask for a full CV - or perhaps if something comes up during a name check

At some consulates they quiz the beneficiary about the petitioner's work history to see how well the couple know each other - although that's not usually that common at the UK interview

I mean my work history/CV. The beneficiary. The one moving.

How much of that will I need to take to the interview at the US Embassy in UK and how extensive do they check? Like, will they contact my fiancé or prior employees? I haven't worked in any area that would be of security interest.

It hardly ever comes up - especially at the UK interview.

I was the beneficiary and simply because I read on here about one person who had been asked for a CV and it took them by surprise, I took a couple of copies of my CV with me to the interview along with other papers I thought I might need just in case but I wasn't asked for it.

If it makes you feel more prepared then just take a copy with you.

Even if you forgot to do that and they wanted to see a copy it would simply mean a short delay in issuing the visa while you provided it.

I had my interview just over 2 weeks ago. I never took any information regarding work. They never asked for anything from previous employers.

If I need to provide one, will the contact the petitioner to corroborate it?

Unlikely. It sounds like there is something very specific that you are worried about?

I am guessing that there is something on your CV that you have not told your fiance? Or don't want them to know?

The only cases I can remember on VJ where they asked for a CV at the UK embassy was connected to scientists or engineers whose work may have been in sensitive areas.

Sometimes when they don't think a relationship is genuine they ask the same questions separately to a couple to see if their answers match but without knowing exactly where your concern lies it's hard to know if this will affect you or not.

The UK is generally an easy interview - especially for UK nationals - sometimes harder for foreign born applicants who are in the UK on other visas.

Ah - well it's probably very unlikely that it will come up at your interview unless you are an engineer or chemist. And even then very unlikely they would ask your fiance about it.

It'd not good in this visa process to have secrets and inconsistencies though, they sometimes trip you up when you least expect it. You're already worrying about it which may make you seem more anxious at your interview.

It's also not good in a relationship to have secrets and inconsistencies. They can cripple your relationship and cause a lot of pain down the line.

OP, sometimes we think our loved ones will think less of us for something we consider to be shameful, when in fact opening up can make you stronger as a team. It can be really nerve-wracking to lay yourself bare before someone and say, here, this is what happened to me, this is what I did. I didn't know how to tell you, but now I am. I can tell you from experience that telling these secrets destroys the power that they hold over us. Being unemployed isn't shameful. It happens, and it has happened to many people recently. As Lynne says, these secrets can trip you up and you don't want to have something like this keeping you from your beloved.

The biographic form you completed for the petition should have had all work in the past five years plus listing of all gaps in work during that time.

If this form was not completed accurately and they find out then it can potentially be classed as misrepresentation and as Lynne and The maven say it can come back to haunt you, not just if your fiancee finds out. Any misrepresentation at any stage can potentially, if found out by uscis, later be used to remove the benefits obtained after said misrepresentation.

Not trying to scare you but you really should be honest at all stages of this process.

After you have the visa and move to the US it will take time to be able to have legal permission to work so you will be unemployed then as well so this is something your fiancee needs to be ok with. Personally i have been out of work for a year due to this process and moving, my husband understands that this is just the way the move has gone and is supportive.
