I'm blaming the parents, or lack thereof in the op of this thread.

They didn't even show up to the hearing.. No mystery how this kid went off the ranch.

Blaming guns and blaming easy access TO guns are not the same thing, no.

Either way, neither of the people I'm talking about were black, so nobody called them thugs and nobody questioned why their father didn't love them enough. They were just mentally ill and in need of help.

We live in a country where you can literally gun down kindergartners and never be called a thug but if you get shot dead in the street and you may have tried weed once, the word 'thug' applies.

I've touched on this before as well. White people who are spree killers are respected in some weird way. This is why folks were upset when NYT ran the piece about Michael Brown and referred to him as no angel. Yet the people who gun down or blow people up aren't mentioned in this way. It's almost like the act itself is treated like an afterthought. They tend to remember them as they were before the murdering starts.

The texts also read, "I wish someone would pull a Ferguson on them and take them out. I hate looking at those African monkeys at work...I enjoy arresting those thugs with their saggy pants."

Now it's Mike Brown's turn to become the new boogeyman. The person everyone needs to be afraid of.

mental first. but, quickly went to the guns & access to them. a lot like the post above yours just did.

makes sense to me in this case. i don't really understand the sandy hook kid's mom encouraging him with guns. just seems like he had behaivioral issues from a very young age that should have sent off red flags for her.

And it's not a race thing either. I remember growing up there were always a number of kids, both boys and girls, who could basically do whatever they wanted. They could stay out late, skip school, smoke weed and drink, they were always in some sort of trouble. Back then we looked at them as the "cool kids" and pretty much idolized them. Many years later, we come to find out that the only reason they were allowed to do all of those things was because their parents simply didn't care about them. Now every one of them is either dead, doing time or in a very miserable life situation.

by who?

Even here, they're not touched. You never hear about Lanza or Holmes, not even the VA tech shooter, who committed the worst shooting spree in history, is referenced anywhere.

The Fort Hood shooter thread was ablaze when folks thought it was a Muslim. Once it was shown it wasn't, it died a quick death.

The VA tech shooter wasn't white. Holmes reportedly converted to Islam (not trying to connect him with the religion or make a statement, just stating that he says he is muslim)

Yes, after the shooting while he was in prison. He converter well after the act. The VA tech was Korean American. My point is these folks don't have targets made out of them, or video games that depict them as violent murderers. Nor are they referenced here, ever. Yet, when someone wants to use a scary person, it's TM and pretty soon Mike Brown.

Well the VA tech shooting happened in april 2007. I didn't join this site until October 2007 and didn't wander into the off topic section until spring 2008.

I don't hear much about Trayvon anymore on here. I don't see how anyone could compare him to Lanza or Holmes.

That's the punchline. He's worse if you listen to what people say around here. He used to be referenced so much, it burned people out. Lanza, Holmes, Boston Bombers, or any other mass shooter or killer, never a reference. But TM? Scariest dude since Jack the Ripper.

Give it some time, you'll have folks saying the same thing about Mike Brown soon enough...
