Marv what I am saying is..If you post every day about how racist America is against black people. You are talking about a majority of white people, throwing us all in the same boat, you hate to be thrown into. I can say without fail, that i have always treated black people equally and have even taken heat for being seen as going to far in that direction.

It irritates me when I hear the constant, everything is racist and the hole deck is stacked against black people because of racism.

Maybe the deck is stacked, I have zero black years under me, but news flash, there are 51 other cards in the deck. Racism is just one of them

The whole deck is not stacked against black people but it's a heck of a lot more than just one card.

Maybe the Asians are the problem? They are to smart and work to hard.

Guess you're not Asian then.

Thank god you don't have any lawyers in your family. I would probably be done with you. They are worse than a Black man who is a member of the KKK, on drugs, who steals from the collection plate. Bastards the lot of them

You are dead to me now, NB.

When you say it is easier for a white felon to get hired than a black PHD that means all white people would do that.

It's the exact same as saying black people are in trouble because so many don't want to work and just want to get checks. It's absurd

You have go to see that .

You are one cool together dude., but somehow obsessed that the world is out to get you. When you expect it, everything is going to be racist to you.

You're comprehension still needs work. When the stats say blacks commit more crime, there seems to be an elation of some sorts. But anything else that points to the game being rigged and people get upset.

The researchers looked at data mainly from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Census, isolating the effects of race and education on unemployment. They found that an African-American male with an associates degree has around the same chance of getting a job as a white male with just a high school diploma. At every level of education, race impacts a person’s chance of getting a job,” Tom Allison, a research manager and one of the study’s authors, told ThinkProgress.

If this is true, why is it so hard to believe a white felon has a better chance than a black guy without a record?

The same holds true for job hunting. Ms. Pager did her research and found this to be conclusive. A white felon has a better chance than a black person without a criminal record. I'm not saying every white person would do this, but it highlights a deeper problem.

People claim education really plays a part in whether or not blacks can achieve certain goals, but it is untrue!!

lol. Can't figure out how to google that up yourself?

Asians must be really bad people because they have the lowest unemployment rate either with or without high school degrees, the top two unemployment categories. Let's see - the black unemployment rate is cut by 65.7% through the educational ranks.

Can you see by the chart who education seems to help the least, and who it helps the most? Education helps blacks the most.

I have children for which education is our life priority. So to me, this anti-education stance of yours is incredible. How can a thinking person speak negatively against education for blacks when it is such a huge force in reduction of unemployment? Are you anti-education for just blacks or is it equal-opportunity anti-education for all?

Having an education and being accepted as an individual who has an education is different. For black people education does not = you can know get a job since you are qualified and society will be more acceptable of you if you are educated as this is constantly implied.

WASHINGTON (CBS DC) – In the report, “A College Degree is No Guarantee” from the Center for Economic and Policy Research, study authors Janelle Jones and John Schmitt find that the Great Recession has been difficult for all recent college graduates, but black graduates remain the hardest hit by unemployment.

The study shows that in 2013, 12.4 percent of black college students who earned their diplomas between the ages of 22 and 27 were unemployed. In contrast, college graduates as a whole had an unemployment rate of half that – 5.6 percent.

Just prior to the Great Recession, the unemployment rate for black college graduates stood at 4.6 percent in 2007. But that number tripled by 2013, boosting up nearly 8 percentage points. In 2013, more than half (55.9 percent) of employed black college graduates were “underemployed,” a term used to describe someone in an occupation that does not typically require a four-year college education.

But even before the Great Recession, nearly half of black recent graduates were underemployed, with data showing a 45 percent rate in 2007.

Overall unemployment among African-Americans has consistently been twice that of white workers, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 1983, black workers had a 19.5 percent unemployment rate, while white workers were at 8.4 percent.

The study authors say that the data shows the “disproportionate negative effect of economic downturns” on all young workers, but “ongoing racial discrimination” continues to hurt young black workers both with and without a college degree – although those with degrees have “suffered less.”

“We absolutely aren’t trying to discourage people from going to college,” Schmitt, a senior economist at the Washington-based Center for Economic and Policy Research, told the National Journal. “College degrees do have value. But what we are trying to show here is that this is not about individuals, or individual effort. There is simply overwhelming evidence that discrimination remains a major feature of the labor market.”

Some majors have fared better than others among black college graduates. But STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) majors still had an average unemployment rate of 10 percent and an underemployment rate of 32 percent between 2010-2012. In contrast, the overall STEM graduates saw only 6 and 7 percent rates.

The study reiterates that racial discrimination is a common problem among U.S. employers.

The authors note that “black men were less likely to receive a call back than equally qualified white men, and black men with no criminal record fared worse than recently incarcerated white men,” referencing a 2009 report on entry-level jobs. “Blacks also placed last in the racial hierarchy, with employers favoring white men, and then Latino men, and only then black men,” write the authors.

“That black college graduates of all ages consistently have higher unemployment rates, higher underemployment rates, and lower wages than their counterparts, even when black students complete STEM majors, reinforces concerns that racial discrimination remains an important factor in contemporary labor markets.”

Oh, so you are saying college education guarantees a job for everyone but Black People? Look at your incessant race-baiting. As if it were only true for Blacks!

I noticed you didn't answer the question about who the data proves education helps the most. You are "arguing" with some fictional person who is not here.

It looks to me like you don't understand how graphs work. This is a handicap in your life, and I suggest getting a better education.

This anti-education mentality of yours will get you nowhere in life. My job, among other things as a professor was to advise students academically. All races. Our most notable minority being native Alaskans like Athabaskan, Innuit, Aleut, Tlingit, Haida, and all... We were also disproportionately weighted towars Asians, mixed European, and Pacific Islanders because of our location and ancient trade relations.

I saw thousands of students over the years so I have just a little bit of experience at this. And I saw this bitter attitude, this "world owes me" chip on their shoulder on happily very few of them. And it's kind of good to see in the long run you know, the people who worked for five years or so on average to get that degree or even graduate with honors in something tough like engineering or chemistry, etc. - seeing those people succeed is rewarding and a form of social justice I approve of.

Being anti-education is bad character if you ask me. It is modern day Luddite behavior. Destructive. We should speak out against it. Especially for black people - as this educational data proves.

Bill Cosby on Blacks and Education:

http://www.examiner.com/article/bill-cosby-speaks-bluntly-about-black-people-and-education

Cosby is especially upset that we have millionaire football players who cannot read or write two paragraphs.

Blacks with high school and even college degrees. You have to ask how that happens, and I can tell you. I was a teacher at a University that had a Rose Bowl team contender. The center was taking self defense from me, of all things. He was this frightening beast - my God, over 300 lbs of power. When he hit the bag it folded in half and the room shook.

But he stopped attending about half-way through and therefore flunked, right before the Rose Bowl. You would not believe the pressure I got. They had an academic office for sports, and I knew of it personally because I was on the wrestlng team. They could get you books for free and tutors, and... people to run interference for you with profs. But there were administration people who called, one legacy donor. Some profs will do it for free, just out of team spirit. (If you ain't cheatin', then you ain't tryin'!" But I am sure some people took money.

I made it clear. If I remember correctly, he had five days before the plane left. I made him come in every day and do two hours to make up ten classes. He came over in his bicycle, with those little tires squishing flat. I will never forget that sight. Just a massive guy on that skinny little ten-speed.

A strange kind of discrimination though - letting people slip through without educations, making exceptions because... they can play sports.

“People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around,” he says.
“They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English. I can't even talk the way these people talk….You can't be a doctor with that kind of ####### coming out of your mouth. In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living.”
Tell it like it is, Bill. Anti-education attitude needs to be condemned strongly. Education is wonderful in its own right, not just because it is a big improvement for your chances to succeed in life. To understand how the world works, to elevate your intellect to a higher level - this is what blacks were DEPRIVED of and that they FOUGHT FOR.
So, after they did so - to leave the next generation with an attitude that eduation doesn't matter? It's disgraceful says Bill Cosby - and I certainly agree with him.

Nothing you said explains why EDUCATED blacks graduating from college has the highest unemployment. I didn't ask you about blacks having antI-educational attitudes because this would imply if blacks changed this attitude and went to college and got an education society would accept them more, because they would be educated. This apparently does not hold true per the data.

(Anti-education attitude needs to be condemned strongly) Foolish assumptions black people are anti-educational because the numbers clearly show blacks graduating and attending college. When will other blacks who are doing what needs to be done stop being held liable for what other blacks are not doing.

MY PERSONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS SHOULD NOT BE HELD VALUABLE DEPENDING ON SOMEONE ELSE'S NON-ACCOMPLISHMENTS!!

This is like telling you that you are personally responsible for the Colorado shooter or the shooter in Connecticut. What does this have to do with you as a person and your own values? Diddly chit!

I'd like to see a graph that shows how many people of each race with college degrees are working at Mcdonalds and Walmart.

I remember seeing a stat the other day for the number of "underemployed" college grads that also was broken down by race.. I don't remember the exact numbers but it seemed like the average was around 30% underemployment. There was also a huge difference in the unemployment rates based on the type of university: Private college graduates had about half the unemployment rate of public college grads.
