General Questions About Processing, Affadavit of Support, and the Interview

My fiance is from Jamaica. Our NOA1 was recieved on March 24, 2014. I am new to Visa Journey and have a few questions.

1) Last week I recieved a letter with RFE. They want proof that we are planning a wedding (which is hard to do when you don't have a wedding date set due to visa processing). Is this a good or a bad sign? How long does it take for the USCIS to make their decision after this?

2) What is the normal time line between NOA2 and the interview?

3) Big question here! What kind of income are they looking for when they are looking at the affadavit of support? I am a full time nursing student at a university and I work PRN (as needed) as a CNA at a hospital. My pay is good, but I do not have a lot of time to work. I will graduate this coming may and start working as an RN by June or July. At that time, finances won't be an issue, but they aren't very pretty right now. Will they take into consideration the fact that I will have a steady income in less than a year?

4) What kind of questions do they ask during the interview? My fiance is deaf and will be using an interpreter, but he is worried that he won't undersand some of the questions.

Sorry, this is a LOT of questions! But there is a lot to do! Thanks in advance for your time helping me!

what a load of garbage. I remember I planned a few things to do with my fiance in the US before she attempted to get a tourist visa -- too bad the consular didn't care about our plans and denied her the visa. It is incomprehensible that the consular office would ask people to plan weddings (which costs money by the way) without any assurance of receiving a visa. How do they get away with this? Good luck bro

You can go to your courthouse where you will have to get your marriage license and they should have a printout of the application process- documents needed and fees, etc. Also, get a list of the Justices of the Peace and call one. That is a wedding plan. After you get the visa you can marry where you wish.

1. All USCIS wants is an intent to marry letter from both parties.www.visajourney.com/examples/Fiance_Letter_of_Intent.doc

2. Nobody can give you any exact time it takes to process because every case is different. It will take apprx 8-9 months from the time you filed until he gets an interview. After that, you will automatically go into administrative processing. Again, nobody can give you a timeframe.

3, You will be required to show you make somewhere between 19,000-20,000 yr. I can't recall exact amount. If you don't you will need a co-sponsor. They will not look at what you might make in the future.

4. They ask different questions and you can find example questions here http://www.visajourney.com/content/exampleq. The interview typically last 5 minutes or less but the process at the embassy will take most of the day

Actual wedding plans are not a requirement for this process. They are basically asking you for a signed statement that you agree to get married within the 90 days of his POE.

The timeline between NOA2 and interview varies, since you have additional forms to submit in order for the embassy to schedule the interview. For some it was about an average of two months.

When it comes to income JA embassy is strict on ensuring that you will not be a public charge, and they look at last year's income as well as current. If your income for 2013 does not meet the income guideline requirements, then you will need a co-sponsor. If your current income 2014 does not meet the income guidelines you will need a co-sponsor. if your income is over by a small margin, you will need a co-sponsor. Also, as a student they do not count scholarship, college grant, fellowship, or student loan funds as income.

Interview questions can be found in Consulate Reviews for Jamaica. http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.php?cnty=Jamaica

You will have to look at several reviews to find questions, you can change entries to only look for K-1 reviews as well.
