Just to clarify, that should read Florida allows for prosecution in the death of viable fetuses.

The new Florida law makes abortion illegal at any point in the pregnancy if the physician determines that the baby could survive outside of the womb. The previous law set 24 weeks as a cutoff point for viability rather than using physiological development of the fetus. The law still allow exceptions if the mothers health is at risk.

Quite obviously a horrible situation but not sure jailing the woman does anyone any good, least of all for the daughter.

Personally I think this is a sad reflection on the healthcare system. Of course the mother should have taken her daughter to the doctor.

WWhy didn't she? Perhaps she was afraid of the cost.

It's sad that people put finance above their own well being and self interest.

Yeah, but the charges will only stick if they fit the crime.

These cases were chemical abortions which means the fetus was at 9 weeks gestation or less. The charge of murder is not an option, even in Florida.

She was not found guilty of murdering the baby (herein refereed to as "MOB"). The disposition of the baby was not in question - the mother was within her rights to want the MOB. The method used - or rather the fact that it was not administered by a physician - was the charge. Doctor does the MOB: legal, Mom buys pills for the MOB over the internet: not legal.

A waste of tax payer money to put her in jail and in truth if you are a pro-lifer it could back fire because now there is a "martyr" for the cause and a new reason to rally against the system.

So it's ok to kill babies by the thousands, but if someone attacks you or breaks into your home you're supposed to ask them politely to leave and not to hurt you because if you shoot them that's excessive use of force. That is some mighty fvcked up logic.
