I don't understand how we can have our kids looked after by barely above minimum wage personnel and believe that they're well cared for.

And what do you do as a parent when you are actually paying the daycare over a hundred dollars a week. Do you control how the money is distributed?

This comes back to the individualistic attitudes of Americans. Everyone has to be separate therefore grandparents are working longer and are unable to participate with the help and care of grandchildren.

We didn't pay any daycare. My wife cared for our daughter.

Many women quit their jobs in Japan when they have children, and concentrate on budgeting the household income etc. Most of them are miserable - lol. Lots of affairs going on.

I think if we just passed a law saying women will earn exactly half of what a man does for the same job, then they would stay at home and take care of the kids themselves like God intended.

You have to see if the extra income you are making with the kids in daycare is work it. If you and your husband are both bringing in 100k, 10k a year isn't that big of a chunk out of your income.

Now apply this to people who have significantly lower income, then the wife will be working just to pay daycare and of course extra expenses for the baby that they will not be able to afford otherwise.

You didn't but this would be the ultimate choice for people who want a family but one parent cannot stay home and you can't trust the daycare either.

That choice still meant a sacrifice. Well worth it and we wouldn't have it any different way.

That aside, some people will depend on daycare facilities and there's nothing wrong with that, really. But one should be aware that one's kids will be looked after by people whose work is valued at minimum wage or thereabout. Shite is bound to happen from time to time under those circumstances, no? So why the outrage? As a nation, we're asking for this shite. And we're getting it.

Why is anyone surprised? Daycare workers are some of the most abused, least appreciated and worst compensated individuals in today's labor market. School teachers have it made compared to those that we hire to care for kids that cannot speak up for themselves. We clearly get what we pay for.
