If I understand you correctly then my response is:

Yes you can leave before you get the plastic green card but be sure to pick it up next time back. The temporary green card (your endorsed visa) only lasts a year.

Be careful on your plans to visit the US once every six months for a couple of years. This is no guarantee of maintaining residency. CBP officers are not dumb automatons who work on rigid rules and blindly let you in because the absence has been less than six months. You *will* get asked questions and they will become harder to answer after your second entry, including where you are living, where you are working and where you are filing tax.

If you are back "properly" within a year you should be fine. They will probably question you, yes. It's how you answer the questions that are important. You need to show them you have not abandoned residence. Bank accounts, tax filings etc will help.

You will be liable to file for tax in the year in which you receive a green card. If you get it this year, you will need to submit a return next year for 2014, look up on the IRS site about submitting as dual status which is what will apply in the first year.

As far as I know you can bring in as much as you want to the US, but if more than $10k cash you must declare. Bank transfers are fine.

A re-entry permit is necessary if you will be out of the US longer than a year.
