Does my fiance have to get a social security number before we get married? Just trying to figure out which steps are first for when he gets here.

It's always been advised to get SSN first then get married. I believe the beneficiary is a male so he does not have to go SSA office to change his name after married. You do. But AOS is all about the beneficiary. Get SSN at first place is very important because he needed it for many reasons (open bank account, etc). If you applied less than 2 weeks before I-94 is about to expire then he high likely will get rejected for applying SSN. He has to wait for at least EAD to get SSN.

We got married first. In Missouri my husband just had to sign a paper stating he didn't have a Social Security number. We were married 5 days after his arrival and applied for his social security card 10 days after his arrival. It was recommended we wait 10 days to get the social security number, so we did. There were no major complications because we were married first then went for his social security number.

Okay, what proof of identity did your husband use when you applied for a marriage license then? Also, can you tell me, what proof he can bring to get the social security card? He has his passport with fiance Visa. What other document can he bring to prove his age? His birth certificate but the website says the prefer U.S. documents?

Stupid Delta Airlines lost his luggage with all his papers and MY birth certificate and a laptop! So annoying!
