What a sheltered life you have lead.

Yes. I am sheltered because BRINGING A GUN TO A FAMILY GATHERING doesn't make sense to me.

Hint: It won't make sense to most people in civilized countries.

I have a niece adopted by birth... Black father white mother. Married into a black family which is fine. It has allowed me to have a sideline view into negro folks in America . So when you say I don't know much about black folks ... I believe I do. This girl has her arm broken by her husband a year and a half ago. .. About 8 weeks ago he was upset with her and broke her jaw in 2 places. .. An arrest warrant has been issued for the parole violation for the first assault and for this second one. He is still walking free uses face book.. Has posted he has access to a gun. .. With face book it is easy to track where folks are . He knows where most of the family lives . So if someone posts about a family gathering it is possible he could know where it will be held. .... When seconds count police are only minutes away. ... So how much would you worry. .

There is a very small chance there will be an earthquake, but I think its good idea to keep an earthquake kit

There is a very small chance there will be an auto accident, but I think its a good idea to insure myself and my car

There is a very small chance there will be a break in, but I think its a good idea to have an alarm and insurance

There is a very small chance the boat will capsize, but I think its a good idea to have a life vest.

There is a very small chance you'll get measles, but I think its a good idea to get vacinated.

There is a very small chance the car will breakdown, but I think its a good idea to have flares or a flashing light.

Being prepared doesn't mean your afraid; Being prepared doesn't mean your paranoid. You make too many assumptions...

Being prepared for attack by your fellow citizens by carrying a firearm is paranoia, not sure how else to frame a less than tangible risk that carrying a gun will do almost nothing to mitigate against.

Risk assessment is doing an objective test to see what the likelihood of an event occurring actually is AND (crucially) taking reasonable steps to mitigate against said event were it to take place WITHOUT (again crucially) increasing the risk that the event might happen. So, while preparing for unlikely events can be a reasonable action, if doing so means having emergency kits that have been proven to be invaluable in emergency situations, it is only reasonable if taking the action does not significantly increase the risk of harm to the person making that provision. It's hard to argue that having an emergency kit for fire, flood, accident is going to increase the risk of harm arising by carrying it around. Carrying weapons around increases the risks to everyone, and does little to nothing to reduce the risk of attack. It's nonsensical to make comparisons like this. Most people realize this. Sensible gun owners do not have guns for self defense UNLESS they are part of a security force and even then they are well aware of the increased personal risk of carrying the gun around, they do it because they have to, not because they want to.

Richard Pearson's Thursday Message:
THE IMMORALITY OF GUN CONTROL IN THE AGE OF ISIS
The beheading of a second U.S. journalist this week by the ISIS terrorist network serves as a stark reminder that these guys mean business. What their business is exactly and how they’ll carry it out remains to be seen. Nevertheless, these guys have threatened to attack us here at home and, judging by the brutality they’ve dished out in Syria and Iraq, any attack here in the U.S. will unleash unspeakable horror.

To date, we’ve seen ISIS bury innocent citizens alive, crucify elderly men, sell women into sexual slavery, and even behead little children. These barbarians will stop at nothing to incite fear and force submission among those they target for attack. Americans should be prepared to witness multiple ISIS assaults on very soft targets full of vulnerable citizens. ISIS would like nothing more than to be able to stream live video across social media of the ritualistic beheading of American school children or the stoning of American women – much like we’ve seen come out of the country that was once known as Iraq.

Even more frightening is the realization that authorities would be unable to head off an ISIS attack on American soil. Our porous southern border combined with the decimated state of our intelligence services leaves the nation a sitting duck for ISIS. Keep in mind that hostages have no value to ISIS whereas heaps of American corpses would. Rest assured that an ISIS attack would have a horrifying impact on our nation’s psyche. This is indeed the new American reality, folks.

To the gun control movement, all the concern voiced over the ISIS threat is nothing but background noise. Despite widespread security worries held by law enforcement and citizens alike, the leaders of the gun control movement are relentlessly pushing forward with their campaign of domestic disarmament. From the President of the United States on down, leftist politicians continue to promise enactment of deep restrictions on private firearm ownership.

Imagine that. Although it’s abundantly clear that the armed citizen is our last line of defense against and ISIS attack, agenda-driven politicians and social activists are working harder than ever to disarm law-abiding American citizens. It almost seems that the gun control movement is stepping up its pace to take your guns away in advance of an ISIS assault.

One of the primary purposes of a federal government is to defend its citizens against enemies – both foreign and domestic. When circumstances lessen the government’s ability to meet that obligation, citizens must be free to step up and provide for their own defense. For the government to actively thwart the citizen’s capacity for self defense – especially through political schemes like gun control - is not only unconstitutional, but immoral as well.

The past 50 years have taught us that gun control is nothing more than political trickery disguised as concern for public safety. The sole purpose of gun control is to fragment and neutralize an active and reliable constituency of socially conservative voters. Leftists believe that institution of strict gun control will leave social conservatives without a rallying point and thus leave the door open to unbridled enactment of their socialist agenda.

The gun controllers would like us to believe that they are on the moral high road when, in fact, they are not. Any public policy that diminishes the individual’s right to self defense is, by its very nature, immoral. Thus, gun control is immoral and the people who support gun control are immoral as well.

There has never been any place for gun control in a nation that claims to be “free.” Certainly, in the age of ISIS, there is absolutely no justification for the government’s advancement of morally-bankrupt policies designed to disarm the good citizens of the United States.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Are you putting this forward as normal family life? It's not, just in case you didn't know. The best thing for this person to do would be to move away from the person who has an obsession for causing them harm. Staying around and carrying a gun is not going to reduce the risk of people getting hurt, not the person the gun would purportedly protect or the other family members.

That is sick and sad that anyone would use the beheading of a journalist at the hands of terrorists to promote more gun ownership for reasons of personal protection. This is sick, twisted and slightly insane.

You are offering to send me some money to uproot several lives.. Just pick up and move. Makes sense I guess if you are on the welfare rolls .. But having a job and being established in a community , schools ect ... How many woman have encountered abusive husbands and ex husbands.....It is common. So bring a firearm to a family gathering against a threat that is perhaps in play... certainly.

I wont go as far as you did with the reasoning. I'll just call it totally unrelated.

I may be a naive lib, but I think my chances of getting beheaded by terrorists are non-existent living here in Texas. Owning a firearm doesn't make it any less likely. My chances of getting killed by one of the criminal illegal aliens Obama loves so much, is probably 10000 times more likely than getting my head sawed off by some religious nuts in the Middle East.

I have yet to see a gun in a supermarket, where are they?

I was in a Kroger last night, no guns.

I'd argue that if you're concerned about some family member whacking you at family gathering, it's probably best to stay home. Grandma's potato salad can't be that good.

So, from watching this one family, you've concluded us Negros are violent and you need to have a gun with you. I guess white people never abuse their family members...
