Why would you ever need to bring a gun to a family gathering?

I take responsibility for my own security and protection.

If more citizens were armed, criminals would think twice about attacking them, Detroit Police Chief James Craig

Florida currently has more concealed-carry permit holders than any other state, with 1,269,021 issued as of May 14, 2014

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

What a sheltered life you have lead.

What part of Somalia do you live in?

Just to be sure I will not be called racist for posting a picture of a criminal, who happens to have dark skin

I take responsibility for my own security and protection.

That is a foreign concept to those who think the nanny state is your golden teat for life

This fear of criminals in the US is completely screwed up. I know people don't like being called paranoid, but objectively, being afraid of something that has a slim to none chance of happening to you if you are a regular citizen and not part of a gang, criminal fraternity or take drugs is just that, paranoid. I am assuming, perhaps wrongly that the people who carry guns around for 'protection' do not live in areas akin to Somalia, as well, they don't exist outside of places like Somalia.

Why are there AED's in most big business now

Why do most houses have smoke detectors and fire extinguishers

Guess these folk are paranoid, I mean being afraid of something that has slim to none chance of affecting you is paranoid right ?

If that's what makes you feel better about arming yourself for a virtually non existent risk, have at it. You could see why there is no analogy between the two if you so desired. It seems you do not wish to do that. So be it.

Oh, just an fyi, questions need these things ??? to be grammatically legible ;)

There is a very small chance there will be an earthquake, but I think its good idea to keep an earthquake kit

There is a very small chance there will be an auto accident, but I think its a good idea to insure myself and my car

There is a very small chance there will be a break in, but I think its a good idea to have an alarm and insurance

There is a very small chance the boat will capsize, but I think its a good idea to have a life vest.

There is a very small chance you'll get measles, but I think its a good idea to get vacinated.

There is a very small chance the car will breakdown, but I think its a good idea to have flares or a flashing light.

Being prepared doesn't mean your afraid; Being prepared doesn't mean your paranoid. You make too many assumptions...

There is a very small chance I will be struck by lightning. I don't go around in rubber wellingtons.

There is a very small chance I will fall off a cliff. I don't wear a parachute.

Thats good because rubber shoes will have no effect on lighting and a more effective way of dealing with a cliff is not to go near it.

You can better prepare yourself for lighting by not wearing metal objects on stormy days, staying away from taller objects and taking shelter in a building or a car.

The lesson being perhaps - don't worry about ridiculous, improbable things.

You can get run over in the street. Accept it.
