So annoying

Is this the immigration reform we've all been waiting for?

One thing is sure is it might give us hints on the content of any future immigration reform. Decreasing employment based immigration fees signals a possible increase in visa quota in this category. Whereas increasing fees for family based immigration could mean that derivatives will not be counted against the allocated quota for F2A/F2B categories. Only main applicant's visa will count in the pool of available visas. Which is a good thing because there will be more visas available to a larger population of IV applicants.

The quantity of a specific type of visa and the visa fees charged are not really related. The fees are set after a review of what it costs to have the systems and personnel available to process the visa and the amount of time it takes to process the visa application. Family-based visa applications usually require more of a visa officer's time, as there are more picky laws that apply to them that need to be reviewed/evaluated. So -- the longer time, the more staff = higher visa fees.

And the saddest part, my sister will repeat the whole medical process and pay another medical fee because her PD is not or will not be current for october and since her medical results will expire on oct.. she will have to do the whole process and pay the fee again. BTW, retro caught her while she was pending on her medical exam. F2A pd: 08/22/2013.
