AOS and the change of name

It seems that there aren't enough instructions/topics/help of any sort on this forum or on USCIS site for people who change their name during marriage. For example, should we specify EVERYWHERE in AOS package the new name? It won't match to the applicant's name and it certainly won't be the one on many documents we sent before, so won't that need to be clarified somehow, other than marriage certificate?

Also, in the K1 AOS guide I noticied that they suggest viisting SSA office to update the name after marriage. Should the new SSN card be sent to USCIS along with the rest of the I485 docs?

If you want your married name on your green card then you should put on your all application in AOS package. A marriage certificate ( a copy or a certified copy) is sufficient as proof that you can use your husband's last name as your last name. Put your maiden name on the box " other names used".

Regarding SSN, you don't send it along with your AOS since it is yours. The forms only asked the numbers and even if you don't have SSN then left it blank. SSN is very confidential and when people steal it they can use it for their own good. So, don't send it.

It is stated in the guide here on VJ > http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

3. Form I-485: Petition for Alien Relative (note: use the non US Citizen spouse's married name on this form and list previous name/names)

The marriage certificate acts as the legal name change document. You never send your social security card to anyone. You can put your social security number on the forms where it asks, or not list one at all, if you do not have one yet. SSN is not required to file for AOS.
