Hi all!

My FI and I are getting married at City Hall in Manhattan and I am finding mixed information about whether a birth certificate is required to apply for the marriage license there. I found a NY state website that claims birth certificates are required for proof of age (https://www.health.ny.gov/publications/4210/), but the NYC Marriage Bureau (http://www.cityclerk.nyc.gov/html/marriage/license.shtml) says only a photo ID is required at City Hall in NYC. Of course calling City Hall is an impossible endeavor. Anyone have any insight?

Thank you!!

I recently got married in New York and I had to produce my birth certificate to get our marriage licence. They used the birth certificate for proof of age and to put my parents names on the licence, I also took my passport as well, better to be over prepared than under. Good luck with your wedding.

We got married there last year. You basically fill out an electronic application (they have PCs there, but you can already do it from home). Bring your passports.

It takes quite some time to get the marriage license, about 2h or more. Then you need to wait 24h from that point to marry, which will also take a VERY long time (2-3h).

But it is a very nice building, and tons of very happy people inside :) Just bring some drinks (we didn't) I'd say
