Hello Everybody,I am directing this question those of you that had undergone the AOS interview for the temporary green card have an idea about it. What did you bring along for the interview? Is it compulsory that your spouse comes with you? What kind of questions did they ask you guys? Must you have a joint account? Is it everybody that is called for the interview? I'm from Nebraska service center.Plz be kind to let me know thanks.

The interview letter will outline everything you need to bring, and yes, of course, the spouse must also attend.

You can find reviews of local offices in the "Reviews" section up top to get an idea about what goes on.

If you're going to bring pictures, bring an extra set. In fact, buy a photo album and put them in there. Our IO asked if she could keep the pictures, and we were able to say, sure, please do so.

I would expect to have to go to the interview. They want to see the two of you, and how you interact with each other, etc. etc. Since you said you're with the Nebraska center, that suggests a military family. If your spouse is on deployment, you would likely be better to reschedule the interview until your spouse is available than just go by yourself.

Bring copies of any legal documents you have that have both of your names on them...I had all of our utility bills, bank statements, lease agreements, etc. And don't just bring the current month...bring as many months as you can find.

I believe that the more paper you have with you when you get to your interview, the higher the chance that they'll believe you're serious about all this and allow you to proceed. For my wife's AOS interview, the officer had two six-inch binders full of the paperwork that I had sent CIS over the last few years. They were impressed.

Regards,

Bill

Thanks Harpa and Bill. I have not receive the EAD yet and we have been married for 4 months now. My wife's job is very demanding and I don't know if she will have the time to accompany me and also she is the only one working right now so my name is not on any document in the house except the marriage certificate because I never thought the interview will be necessary. How can we add my name to the utility bills and when do they normally send the interview dates is it after the EAD has been sent? I live in Virginia. I need more inputs from more people please. Thanks Guys.

You have to show evidence you have a life together. Did you apply for your SS when you arrived within that 90 day window?

She needs to start adding you to bank accounts bills and insurance things like that.

Also the pics they will probably want to keep. What have you been doing as a couple for the last 4 months this is what you need to show regular couple things building your life together.

Are you on lease/mortgage, car payment, car insurance. Do you have drivers license. Lots of things you can be doing.

And her being busy and not being there will just get you denied. She has to be there its not a choice its required.

Get a Social Security card, get a Virginia state ID/DL (I don't know if it's necessary but you might as well get it now while you start your new life), and get your name on your wife and your bills (utilities, like you mentioned). Do you have a shared bank account? Get one, even if you maintain separate individual accounts as well. You have to show evidence of a real relationship, which includes having things in both of your names. My wife is on my auto insurance, we are on the same health insurance family plan, we have a joint bank account, most of our bills (and our apartment lease) are in both of our names, et cetera.

Thank you jx. I have my social security number already but I was told by the dmv in Virginia to come with my authorization letter to get a DL but I'm still waiting for that to get to me. I am going to discuss the putting my name on those documents and have a joint account with my wife too.

They don't care that much about utility bills. What they want to see is mingling of finances. Both names on bank accounts. Bank statements showing you using debit cards, credit cards from joint accounts. They actually wanted to see the cards. Bring cards showing you are on your spouses medical insurance. Bring lots of pictures of wedding or wedding party and other activities you have done together. They love it if there are also family members in some of the pictures. Have some close friends and family members write a letter about your relationship and have them noterized. Don't forget any of the paper work they are going to request like you origional birth certificate. Have you spouse bring their passport also. These interviews can be tough.

Thank you fancygirl. Your advice is very welcomed. I will look into that. @harpa, can u work in America without employment authorization? Everywhere I have applied for job they told me I need employment authorization so I have not been working and I don't have a bank account and is really stressing me out knowing full well I should be supporting my wife. The whole stress is putting a strain on us already is hard for her alone taking care of the home. I'm desperate to get my EAD so that I can be able to support the home financially as a man. I can't do anything without the EAD not even a DL. Sometimes I feel like just going back home where I have a life before now.

Hi GodsRule,

In order to work, you MUST have a SS card, and an EAD/AP card. Have you applied for Adjustment of Status? When you did, did you apply for the EAD/AP card? The card does not come automatically with the AOS application, it is an option that you can file for.

DO not attempt to work without this -- it would be illegal, and you could get into serious immigration/legal trouble if you do.
