What relevance is that?

This is a perfect example of playing the race card dishonestly. Does the fact she is black make her ignorance of slavery in the USA excusable? My brother is black. Adopted. From Swaziland originally. We played soccer together in junior high, spied on our sisters slumber parties together, one grade apart in school, but everyone knew we were brothers. His middle name is pronounced "mfanangapala" which means "it's finally a boy" because it was eight girls followed finally by a boy.

How is that relevant either? Not at all, except the irony of you playing the race card against me. lol.

edit - oh yes perfect too: pretending all black people get automatic credit for ending slavery? Trivially wrong. And that no white people can be given credit for ending slavery?

Preposterous.

But aren't you playing the race card? And who said Whites did nothing to end slavery?

R,

Usually I get behind your statements, but this one I can't. No one said white people didn't help end slavery. You don't know what Janelle's family did. So before you start passing out judgement, chill out. She wasn't trying to lecture you or anyone else. But you seem to jump on her when she wasn't even responding to you.

My grandfather fought in WW2, I guess I can put defeating Hitler and the Nazis on my resume. Maybe I should go ask a Jew what his/her family did to stop the Holocaust?

So did mine. Need to update my Linkedin profile.

They def helped. But she said they built "most" of America. I call bs on that. I'm not suggesting they didn't contribute. Of course they did.

i took that 'most' as in, the most important part. which in my mind is the beginning, the foundation. i don't know if that's how she meant it. but that's how i mean it. doesn't matter, janelle can speak for herself. i'll shut up now.*

My taking exception to you asking a black person what her family has done to end slavery has nothing to do with giving anyone credit. It is solely based on your lack of class and respect to direct such a question to one of the very people who's ancestors were the victims of that atrocity. For you to sit here and pump your chest about something one of your ancestors did 150 years ago to help end slavery and then turn around and disrespect and attempt to belittle someone who's ancestors were the victims of that slavery is what's preposterous here. You should be ashamed of yourself really.

You'll get a kick out of this then:

That's a really good point. Why should we take credit for, or MORE importantly, take responsibility for bad acts committed generations ago?
