Hello,

My boyfriend is a Peruvian citizen and hoping to visit the US on his way to study abroad in Edmonton, Canada from January to April. He already has the student visa approved and we are wondering how the chances look for getting a US travel visa. He has received a large scholarship from the Canadian university as well so there'd be a lot of reasons for him to go. He is studying mechanical engineering and will finish his studies in Peru once he comes back from Canada. He does not have a job or own property. His tie to Peru (and also Canada) is that he needs to finish his studies and has family back in Peru. Are there any tips out there and what are the chances? I also hear the embassy likes quick replies to their questions such as, "Why are you going to the US" and you respond "I'm going for tourism purposes on my way to Canada." is that too much to say all that information or will they not care? I need to make sure the embassy knows he's going to Canada after because thats obviously an important detail. How would he slip that in? Thank you so much.

Of course they will care what his answer is to that question. It is a common question asked at interviews. If he was attempting to visit AFTER his studies then I would suspect more problems. But he has a strong tie to Canada. Bring that paperwork to the interview.

good luck
