That is good that your fiance did not force any opinion on you but rather answered any questions you had because there shouldn't be any coercion in Islam....."La ikraha fy eldeen" Surat AlBaqarah Aya 256

Not sure if anyone is interested in replies to the OP at this point but I'll go ahead anyways. :P

I did revert/convert to Islam last June alhamdulilah!

It is the best thing I have done in my life and I am greatful every day that I was led to Allah and Islam.

After being with my fiance for a year, I started to get curious about his faith and decided if I was going to marry him, I should learn what I could about his beliefs.

When I first started to read about Islam I couldn't believe the things women and muslims in general were required to do! I was shocked and let me tell you I said it more than one time that I would neverbecome a muslim.

Never say never I guess.

After studying for 6 months or so, I knew in my heart that I was already muslim, though I had not "formally" said shahadah.

My fiance was very very careful to never influence me and only talked about Islam when I had questions. He had hoped of course that I might revert at some point, but he wanted to make sure that it was because it was something I wanted, and that's why he was careful not to try to sway me or influence my decision and thoughts about Islam.

When I told him that I was going to go down to the local masjid to say shahadah the day before I did it he was absolutely thrilled!! :D

Every day I learn something new and insha'Allah I will continue to learn and grow.

Alhamdulillah melly! I love to read of how people come to Islam.

I really had never heard of Islam until after 9/11. It was due to the media coverage and Mr. Bush ;) I started to read and study about it. It took me about 6 months to realize that I indeed was Muslim. I said shahada on May 5, 2002. I met my husband in July 2002 and ...well you all know the rest.

Funny story about how 2 people can see a situation different. A lady told me "When I went to Jordan, his mother came and put a pillow between us!" and she was offended thinking the mother was trying to keep them apart. When I went to Jordan, and they did the pillow trick,,it was for our comfort to lean on. They also gave me a small blanket to cover my lap. It's all up to how you want to look at something.

I treasure any words of wisdom on Islam or life in general from my husbands family. Respecting your elders is just common sense, not a Christian or Muslim thing.

Not a convert; born Muslim 53 years ago. Masters and Ph.D. in the subject.

It is true that you can always learn something about Islam from anyone. I was taught one unwavering fact regarding Islamic knowledge: No one is considered to be knowledgable about Islam, despite their age, despite their learning, unless they agree with YOU (or your Muslim man). Otherwise you are seen as merely old and arrogant.

I learned that from reverts.

thanks for the books you rec'ed. i've been reading one and have been very intrigued. :D

I am a revert and have been for over 2 years now and I continue to learn on a daily basis. Insh'allah I will learn every day Allah gives me on this earth.

...Don't even get me started on Bush and his 'administration'

I was reading and learning about Islam for several months before I met my husband. It started out as a basic curiosity of the Islamic religion. I reverted July of 2006. Is wasnt long after that Hachemi and I became engaged.

I am a Christian. I do not plan to convert to Islam. My husband is okay with that. I believe that no matter what religion you are, Christian, Jewish, Islamic, as long as you follow what God wants of you and are a good person, all will see God. Therefore we are all brothers and sisters and God is our father.

I have known men and woman when I attended church who were good people in church. However once crossing the threshold into the regular world would rob you blind and stab you in the back. Going to church, mosque, temple or praying all day does not make you religious. It is how you treat others. Would God want you to be nasty, say horrible things, gossip or back stab others? Do you go that extra mile to help someone?

I know I sorta got off topic, sorry for the soap box.

I'm not the OP, but I doubt it. This topic comes up every so often here in MENA as there are many reverts on the board.

Actually Wendy your the one speaks the most sense, doesnt matter what you claim to be if you dont live it with respect for young and old, kindness, truth, etc then what do you have? This is where i was wondering what religion would accept someone to tell others they love to HATE them.

Not me Charles  but to me any time hate is used it speaks pretty boldly for its self. When my kids would say i hate... i would try to explain you may not like them but dont ever say you hate them. Guess times have changed and maybe whoever it was said that did say it as a jokeing way
