the term convert is incorrect. islam believes that all are born a muslim, so one reverts to islam from another religion ;)

Of course however my fiance and his family seems to think I do not know anything. Like pray and stuff. I am a hard core reader and I like to study topics and I study as my brain can take in. He was surprised to see that I was not a "newbie" I prefer the termed "seasoned" you know. To see my pray and he will try to explain something and I will finish it. I do not have much patiances for his family however, they like to ask thousands of questions about what I know. I do not like these kinds of questions and I do not answer them. They normally make me so upset but I think they are starting to get the point. One thing that I notice about his family is that they feel like if they do not see it then you do not do it. Which is ridicilous, when I pray is my busy. And one time I guess his aunt wanted to show me how to do wudu and I was so pissed, but I did not know what to say. I just got up and I came back to the restroom another time. It is crazy but I am guessing this is how Morocco is. I have only seen this with his fmaily but his whole family acts this way.

I want to interject that learning about Islam is not the same as being a Muslim. There are illiterate Muslims who have never "learned" about Islam and may not even know every word recited in prayer (i.e. - tashahud). There are people of all religions or no religion at all that have studied Islam extensively and are extremely knowledgable. Being a Muslim and learning about Islam can be two very different things. An "expert" on Islam is not necessarily even a Muslim, so while there may be nothing left to learn about Islam, most people consider faith a continuous work in progress.

I am well aware of this and was responding to Moody's post about learning after 12 years. I think I do both, but I believe that I am a bit more knowledgeable then my fiance. One thing I noticed is that a lot of them just believe what someone told them. They do not look or find out why??? I love history and I love Islam, I have been studying it since I was 12 and I recerted at 20 so yes I understand clearly the difference between the two.

This is hard sometimes because the more you learn and pray (I think) the more you being to incorporate things in you life. Right now I am studying the Quran and Hadith concerning money affiars and business being a business student it is very interesting and also it has really changed the way that I do business. One of my biggest topics was hijib, pray and yogo, marriage, relationships with others, family and several others. But this is how i like to study. It is more organized i think. There is a book full of hadith and I kind of bounce around in it. So when I talk to my fiacne about Islamic Law or Business, he is shocked or not as informed about the topic as I thought he would be. It is like he excepts me to ask about salat and then I come out with this question that is blowing him away.

As far as the pray Arabic do you know how long it took me to find a cd with the tashahud on it. I final ended up with Yusuf Islam prays of the last prophet. This was a great cd, did even one else do like learn Quran in the car???

Do you you see yourself as being that knowledgable about Islam that you have nothing at all to learn from your fiance? You may be knowldegeable in textbook things but what about other things? What about being charitable, being patient, being kind to your family? You weren't even happy for someone that recieved a visa because you don't have yours yet. I think there is alot you can learn from everyone and anyone. My uncle is a Pastor and is well educated in Christianity and other religions but always feels that he can learn from anyone. What about modesty and I don't mean the physical notion of it.

I was wondering the same. I mean, it seems there are some things you've left out of your learning process, like deference and respect for people older than you, or even for your family. They must be so insulted, not only as Muslims, but as Moroccans, considering parents, especially mothers, are the gem of the household.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

I know! The sheer arrogance of some people. It's depressing, no?
