My wife got her Biometrics done today. Everything went smoothly without any problems but they did ask for our marriage license which I had luckily brought with us.

Also on a side note, I was asking the older gentleman who interviewed us about my wife getting her DL and getting the I-94 changed to her married name. He told me that there was no way she could get her DL until she got her GC (we had tried to get her to be able to take the test and they could not verify her legal status on S.A.F.E. so they denied her). He also said someone about waiting until she got the GC to get her SS card. I told him she already had her card and we had gotten it the 2nd weeks after she was here in the US. Anyway when we got home we had a letter from the Texas DPS (Drivers License department) and it said that she had been verified and is now able to get her license. :D

It just goes to show you how little these people that work for USCIS know or how uninformed they are.

Oh wow yes totally, any information you get from them verify twice with another person ( if the first answer is negative )

I know a girl who they told she couldn't use her married name to file AOS. They told it to her at the interview last week and I told her that's impossible everybody puts the married name so that's the name you get in the GC. But I see similar with your wife's DL. But yayy so good she is able!!! Congrats :)

I have read some old post in the forum about people who go with their EAD/SSN to the DMV and they say the same that they can't get a license without GC. The website says it's possible, people just don't know the laws, if that happens to anyone just print the page come back another day!

I also have read in Florida they allow people with just the NOA!

random question:

Everybody has health insurance already?????

What kind of company you are with and are you with your husband/wife or by yourself???

And if you don't mind... Around how much you pay?????

I don't have one yet for economic reasons. My husband is self employee and he is with Humana but I know I will have to get one by myself or wait until I have a job.

With Obamacare it's an obligation to have health insurance or at the end of the year you have to pay a fine.

I opened a post the other day asking if anyone knew when does it starts counting ( about the fine ) and a girl answered with EAD.

I'll leave the link here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/516665-fee-for-not-having-heath-care-when-does-it-start/?p=7272234

If any of you have any more info about it feel free to share I'm very lost about this Health sistem.

( my husband left today because his job he will be out the country for a month I have all my in laws near to ask things but I know they are busy to be asking 24/7 so I'm kind of dealing and trying to learn about everything by my own while my husband is gone )

I have health insurance through my husband. He used to not have any health insurance at all because he couldn't afford it when he was a student. Made me scared back then because I was wondering what it would be like for me once we'll be married. Luckily he found a job last May and it has a great health insurance plan (also including vision and dental). It's free for my husband and it's $20 every month for me, so that's not bad at all. It's BlueCross BlueShield. I haven't really looked through it so far, so I'm not sure how it works and how much we have to pay when we go to the doctor. I just know that there's a list of doctors that we can go to (if we go to a doctor that's not on the list, we would have to pay full price).

I don't have any other info to give you, sorry! I'm kinda lost about that too! It's completely different than what I'm used too lol. I hope other people can give you more info.

Sorry your husband left for a month. That's long!!

I guess in France is like in Spain. You just go to the doctor and pay nothing ( they take it out from taxes, but if you don't work you still don't pay ) it's so confusing in this country. At least for me. I have to learn about it.

Your information helps :) I really have no idea about anything.

My husband and I decided to wait until I had a job. He is a professional motorcycle rider so his health insurance is very pricey ( he is often in the emergency room or random injuries ) and it was my idea to wait for mine since my life style right know is kind of staying in the house almost all day not much can happen to me haha.

Only thing I will need in a few months is for my birth control pills... I asked already in pharmacies and they only sell them with subscription ( in Spain you literally just go to the pharmacy and get them from the shelf and they are only $16 ) so I know sooner or later I'm going to need some kind of insurance. You and your husband have a very good deal!!!!!

I will take a look at Blue cross and Blueshield website :) thanks for writing

Well in France you pay your doctor's appointment but then you get most of the money back. I lived in the US 2 years before but never had to go to the doctor or anything and had insurance through the au pair agency, so it's all new for me too :)

Yes it's probably better to wait until you have a job. Hopefully you can find a job that has a good health insurance plan! That's true that since staying in the house most of the time there's not a lot of risks! (Except when you fall down the stairs like I did  lol)

Maybe for your birth control pill, you can ask your family or friends back in Spain to send you some (time you get an insurance). My mom did that for me before.

Good luck in your research!!

In the 5 years I've been coming here I never had to go to the doctor ( besides the medical exam, and it was $320!!!!!!! ) so I will just try to be careful with the stairs hahah :)

I had the same idea my mom sent me pills last August and that will last me for a few months, and a friend is coming to visit this winter so I will ask her too. So that's good they are helping but I will have need a doctor at some point.

My timeline says EAD should be here around November 13 if everything keeps this way I'm fine waiting for it.

320$ geez that's a lot! I had to pay 200€ for my medical in Paris. I was missing a shot, so I got it before leaving. I had to go to a civil surgeon here in Atlanta and it was 60$ just for a transcription. So I guess that's not too far from what you paid. Crazy!

My timeline says between Nov 1st and Nov 4th, so that's not too long! Anyway, I totally understand how you feel about the insurance cause you never know when you might need it. I always tell my husband that I don't know how he did it before (for so long) without insurance!

It was a scam the doctor.....I read here in the forum to call several and try to find someone always under $200.

We called a few one morning from the list and the cheapest was $155. My husband asked on the phone about the vsccines and told her all I had and she said that was all.

Once there the TB test was extra money..... The blood test was extra money...... I was missing varicella vaccine ( she never mentioned on the phone ) and they had to out tetanus again because mine was from years ago.

I just could agree with everything since I need them to sign the form. So from $155 ended in $320!!!!!! We were speechless when we saw the bill.

That's awesome your timeline says between November 1st and 4th!!!!! Mine started November 28 and every couple days seems to move closer. It's actuallg the most exiting thing lately since my uscis status always looks the same haha. Checking the timeline here makes me happy

Here in AZ we had an ### of a doctor who you could tell hated his job, besides the fact that he was busy every time we went to his office (Ill explain) he spent all of 5 minutes with us the first time, 5 shots later and $395 we were done. Whats funny is he wouldn't even look at any of the documents supplied from her exam there.

So we go back for him to view the TB test on her arm and get the sign documents to file her AOS and he says, oh...... you have TB ! I was so pissed, I said no.... she doesn't and he needs to view her medical records from China and I had him the information and he says he can't read it because its in Chinese ! I said what can't you read its translated in English !

So then he looks at the info and her arm (basically her skin was normal Caucasian color and not Chinese yellow but not red or pink)and says she need a chest X ray. So that was another $95.00. What a scam... they only have I think it was 5 doctors in AZ, what a joke.

The worse part of this was saying she had TB and her spending the next 2 days (till we got the x ray results) crying, apologizing, thinking she was going to be made to return to China until she did some research and found that its rather common that Chinese people test a false positive on the TB test. Anyway, we ended up making 3 trips to see this idiot and I just wanted to post our experience. Really !!! He said right to her face, You Have TB! What an ###.

That's such a shame that they can take advantage of you like that and you ended up paying more than twice the price they told you at the beginning. I'm sorry it happened to you :( I found my civil surgeon on VJ (in the "civil surgeons that won't rip you off" thread). People said it was 40$ just for a transcription. So I called and the lady wasn't really sure of the price. I went anyway and ended up paying 60$ for the transcription.

Yes my USCIS status for my EAD and AP has been looking the same too! Can't wait to see it change!! I wonder if it's on hold too or if just my I-485 is on hold since of my RFE. I'm hoping to send my RFE response soon cause I found a joint sponsor!! :)

Geez!!! Really? That sucks! I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Like I said in my post above, some people are just trying to take advantage of new immigrants and making you pay so much money. And lying too! That's so not right!!!

Oh my gosh!!! Yes thats true!! the nurse told me when she did the skin TB some people who has the old vaccines it shows like positive, but it's really not so they have to do X-Ray to confirm. And I asked her if they could do X-Ray directly ( you know to save money haha ) and she said no.

But it didn't come positive.

That was so mean from them to come saying "you have TB!" . After the skin test I passed the next 3 days in Google looking at pictures of how my skin should look or not if it comes positive , I'm sure I would have had the same reaction as your wife thinking if they send me back now or what happens!

It scary you are in a new country and they say that to you... But at then end what matter is that she is Ok:)

I have to say everybody was very nice to me, but they totally take advantage of the situation $$$$$$$$ ( I only saw the doctor for 2 minutes I had 2 nurses all the time I thought that was weird ) but they gave me a full copy of all the papers in the envelope for me to see and keep. That was nice I've read people who don't even show the results because they say it's "confidential "
