Does she already have a SSN in her maiden name?

Marriage certif will most likely need to be of the certified variety ... gotta love how it costs money to print off a "official" piece of paper. :P Probably handy to have a certified copy on hand anyways!

Yeah she was born and raised in NYC so she has a SSN in her maiden name. I guess I will have to go down to the city clerk (5 dollars for the subway ticket) to get a "certified copy" for 15 dollars.. total 20 dollars wasted for such a simple task.

I just checked the USCIS website and my EAD has jumped to "My card was ordered to be produced" and AP has been approved! Woohoo I'm so happy!!

If they catch you working for cash without your EAD or Green card your AOS will be denied and you can even get deported! We are still not 100% admitted in this country until our green card is aprove

Hey guys, random question, does anybody have any experience with requesting a last name change with the social security administration? My wife wants to change her last name but from what I've seen they are requesting certified copies of our marriage certificate and stuff. A copy from the NYC City Clerk costs 15 dollars and then again I am not sure if they need certified copies of her passport too or what?

Could I just go there in person and show them our original marriage certificate? :S

I thought about going there with the original, but then again its my wife who needs to change her last name so I don't know if they will accept me taking the form (signed by her) there in person with all the original documentation.. I guess we need to call and see what they say.. So much stuff to do after marriage :/

Don't panic! :) It can take up to 30 days to get your NOA1 texts/emails. After 30 days, you can call. But you should hear from them really soon! ^_^

Biometrics done today @ Norridge, IL (Chicago area). Appointment was at 2pm, got there around noon because I was driving on my own and wasn't sure how long it would take - didn't seem to matter because I was just ushered next in line and was out by 12:30ish.

Nice!!! Yes it doesn't seem like they care a lot about the times and dates. ( unless there is tons of people )

i am starting to panic. i sent my aos last sept. 17 and till now no news yet..

its almost 2 weeks now. should i call them to follow up?

Don't worry ( I know I would be too ) it may take even 30 days.

If after 30 days there are no news then call. For now they may be just processing things.....

Does your tracking number says it arribed to destination???

I think their whole system is automated. Mine says that my application was received on the 25th, yet I only got the emails yesterday night at 22:45. It's possible that they put the information in their systems and then they have all the applications they received stucked up waiting to be emailed out automatically.

On a second thought, if that happened and they have your information on file and the email is just taking ages to be sent out you could give them a call to see if they received it or not..

Haha yes. At the beginning everything is exciting now it's like "oh ####### this again, and I have to pay for this document too"

I would totally call before going specially if she is not going with you. So you don't spend any extra money on trips. Or in case they only give it to the USC

Oooh she is the US petitioner - I think you need a certified certificate depending on what your "original" one looks like.... When we got married and got a "marriage certificate" afterwards, we were told that its more of a memento and will need to wait for certified copies to do anything official (took about 2 weeks after our wedding in Chicago).

Oooh she is the US petitioner - I think you need a certified certificate depending on what your "original" one looks like.... When we got married and got a "marriage certificate" afterwards, we were told that its more of a memento and will need to wait for certified copies to do anything official (took about 2 weeks after our wedding in Chicago).

Our original is an actual marriage certificate valid for use domestically in the usa. In queens, new york city they give you your marriage certificate immediately after your wedding instead of waiting for it to arrive in the post :)

yes they got it last sept. 19 called usps and got the name of the recipient

Hi! Yes I had the same thing. It means that they received your package. Once they start processing it, that's when you'll receive texts/emails with case numbers!

My wife got her Biometrics done today. Everything went smoothly without any problems but they did ask for our marriage license which I had luckily brought with us.

Also on a side note, I was asking the older gentleman who interviewed us about my wife getting her DL and getting the I-94 changed to her married name. He told me that there was no way she could get her DL until she got her GC (we had tried to get her to be able to take the test and they could not verify her legal status on S.A.F.E. so they denied her). He also said someone about waiting until she got the GC to get her SS card. I told him she already had her card and we had gotten it the 2nd weeks after she was here in the US. Anyway when we got home we had a letter from the Texas DPS (Drivers License department) and it said that she had been verified and is now able to get her license. :D

It just goes to show you how little these people that work for USCIS know or how uninformed they are.

K-1 Visa

Oct 1st, 2013 – Mailed in I-129F Package to Dallas Lockbox.

Oct 4th, 2013 – Package Delivered.

Oct 9th, 2013 - NOA1 Text and Email

Oct 15th, 2013 - NOA1 Hardcopy received in mail. Notice date on hardcopy says October 8th.

Nov 13th, 2013 - NOA2 - update on USCIS website

Dec 9th, 2013 - Petition received at NVC

Dec 11th, 2013 - Petition sent to Manila

Dec 19th, 2013 - Embassy receives petition

Dec 29th-Jan 8th-Our first New Year's together.

Feb 23rd- Fly to Manila to be with Ema for the interview.

Feb 27th, 2014 - Interview scheduled. We were APPROVED dancin5hr.gif

Feb 28th, 2014 - Ema does CFO- Passes with flying colors.

Mar 6th, 2014 - Visa in hand and ready to fly home.

Mar 14th, 2014 - POE Los Angeles

Apr 17th, 2014 - Our Wedding date. (L)

Sept 5th, 2014 - Mail package to Chicago

Sept 9th - Package Delivered

Sept 11th - NOA1 Texts and Emails.

Sept 17th - NOA1 Hardcopys received.

Sept 20th - Biometrics appointment letter received. Appointment for Oct 2nd.

Oct 2nd - Biometrics Done!

Nov 15th - EAD & AP approved and on the way!

No interview or interview wavier notice received

Jun 30th, 2015- Received welcome notice and approval.

July 23rd - Ema finally has her Green Card :dancing:
