The mother of a Mississippi kindergartener claims that her daughter was attacked by another child at the school playground, but the school district says the girl was hurt on her own.

WTC is wrong with people?!?!?!?

The school says her injuries are self inflicted. Looks like she was beaten to a pulp. Don't know how a child can do that to themselves.

Not unless she jumped from a 2nd floor balcony... I am surprised the mother has not self-inflicted some injuries to those responsible to look after her kid..

Me too. If my sons came home looking like that, someone is going to answer to me.

I saw that yesterday - those a pretty severe injuries for a fall.

That being said, the school has a point. Probably the best the mother can hope for is to file a suit against the school for negligence.

"AvaLynn informed Lacey that she was assaulted by another student: that she was kicked repeatedly in the face until she fell off of the slide on the school's playground. The school informed Lacey [that there] were no teachers present when the incident occurred, and because of that, no one could prove whether or not another student had harmed Ava."

She probably got kicked in the head and smashed her face into the ground when she fell off the slide. School officials need to keep a better eye on things, especially after this.

Neglect in the U.S. school system? Impossible!!!

Why was no one around supervising a 5 year old? Smoke break, sex in the break room or just truly don't care about kids. And in this case, why work for a school.

We don't know how often,or length of time they were regularly unsupervised. Could have been just a matter of time before this happened or it could have just been as simple as supervisor had diarrhea that one day and had to make an emergency bathroom break.

I've fallen off slides before and never looked like that.

While I think the US is far too sue-happy, I'd sue the school if I were her momma. Poor baby...

If the child was left home unsupervised, CPS would be all over the parents. Same should apply to the school. Regardless of how the injuries occured, the school/employee is at fault for not providing supervision.

Also not sure why they school would even release a statement as to how the injuries occurred since they did not witness the incident. Their statement should be more along the lines of - "we don't know what happened - we f'ed up "
