SOUTH AMBOY – A mother of two from Philadelphia who faces prison time for carrying a handgun in New Jersey will meet Thursday night with members of the Middlesex County Tea Party.

Shaneen Allen, 27, obtained a license-to-carry permit and purchased a .380 Bersa Thunder handgun after she was robbed in a Philadelphia alley in July 2013.

During a trip to Atlantic City last October, Allen was arrested during a traffic stop and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of hollow-point bullets.

She faces three to five years in prison.

According to media reports, Allen did not know her license was invalid in New Jersey.

Allen will appear at the Tea Party’s monthly meeting, set for 7-9 p.m. at the Peter Pank Diner on Route 9 North in South Amboy, according to Tea Party member Gary Charwin.

The public is invited to attend.

Tea Party members are asking the charges against Allen be dropped.

“I am hoping that immediate attention will prevent the destruction of this woman’s life as she innocently acted within her 2nd Amendment rights,” Charwin stated in an email to NJ.com.

Charwin said Allen has lost her job as a medical technician and is having trouble finding other employment due to the indictment and publicity about the case.

Allen also lost her license to carry a weapon, according to Charwin.

This thread is about the the tea party helping black folks...... In the liberals mind and it seems some on here the tea party is an offshoot of the KKK and this would put a damper on this national perception . . I posted a story about the tea party helping folks ravaged by looters in the riots. It did not get much play on here either. Just folks doing their best to other folks in need .

Correct. What started off as an angry old white folks movement is now reaching out to others.

And it makes sense that this would happen.

After all, the right to bear arms isn't limited to white folk. Even us PoC have the right and the need. An overbearing government oppresses us all.
