I just wanted a solid answer but couldn't find one at all in terms of joint sponsors and the forms to fill out.

I did a search and some of the replies were conflicting and got me confused.

I am trying to complete the paperwork for my husband's Adjustment Of Status.

I just recently got a job with the DMV after a long period of unemployment, but don't start until Monday, so as of now, no income coming in. I want to complete the AOS paperwork so my husband can work and get the whole nine yards (EAD, re-entry permit, Green Card). Of course I have no income right now and my dad is willing to be a joint sponsor.

Information about my dad: He doesn't claim me, we live in the same household, makes enough to sponsor me.

I file my own taxes, claiming myself. :)

Does my Dad needs to fill out a I-864 or an I-864A?

Thank you so much!

You each fill out a I-864

The I-864 is for when you combine income and are financially tied- such as the spouse of a co-sponsor.

A little correction - I-864A is when you combine income ;)

I guess you were hungry and ate the "A" there ;)

Lol-yes!

Sorry for confusing you more Op, Asia is correct.

I won't reply before coffee anymore :P

Husband/petitioner/primary sponsor = I-864

Mother/joint sponsor = Own separate I-864

If the mom is married and files taxes jointly, her spouse can fill out an I-864A to go along with her I-864 and their incomes will be combined to act as joint sponsorship.

Is someone going to fill out an I-864A to go along with her I-864? If yes, then put a 1 there and fill out the person's info on the I-864 where it asks. If no, then you would not put a 1 there.

His info will be filled out as Person 1 in Part 6 #6a.-c. Then in #10, their incomes will be combined for the total household income.

does she need to put 1 on PART 5 NUMBER 7? since my dad in law will submit i864a? or he shud be entered as 1 on part 5 number 3?
