I-130 and G-325A: some (possibly silly?) questions

Hello,

I hope you can help me with a couple of what probably seem silly questions. I've done searches for the answer, checked out the sample forms, etc. but it is possible I am worrying too much and I'm asking things that don't matter!

Anyway..

I-130:

It says in the instructions to type or print the form, I assumed if you complete it by hand it should be in CAPS but when I noted that it asked in section B/1 for the family name to be in CAPS, I thought perhaps they wanted the rest of the form apart from the family name in lower case print?

Do I complete all dates in the format mm/dd/yyyy even when it doesn't specify a format?

It asks on page 2 (section C/17) for the details of the beneficiary's (my) husband/wife and children. My husband/wife is the petitioner, do I enter his details here or write N/A?

G-325A (fillable form):

Does it matter if this form is completed in CAPS or not?

Where it says all other names used I am entering my Maiden name there. Do I write my whole maiden name or just the surname?

There is a box titled 'husband or wife' on the left hand side which says 'if none, so state' - if you do have a husband/wife do you write 'husband' or 'wife' or just leave this blank?

Also, one more thing:

I have put N/A against Alien Registration Number on the I-130 and NONE in the box at the bottom of both our G-325As. Is this correct?

Thanks :)

I-130

1. We did ours in lower case except Surnames which were done in CAPS.

2. Dates should be in the mm/dd/yyyy format or it can create confusion.

3. Question 17. Is asking information on the Alien Relative (beneficiary). So the beneficiary's husband or wife is the 'petitioner'........plus you would list any children of the beneficiary.

G-325A

1. Complete in CAPS or lowercase.....it doesn't really matter.

2. I only entered my Maiden surname, and my former married surnames. If you are or have been known as something else other then the first names you were born with, you would need to put them there as well.

3. You are married so where it asks for your husband or wife that is who you put there. You would put your spouses name etc on your G-325A........Your spouse would put you as his husband or wife on their G-325A.

4. 'A' number (Alien registration number). If you have never been assigned an 'A' number by any previous dealings with USCIS you will not have one...but you will. If you have had an 'A' number in the past you use that. If you do not know it you can put 'Unknown'. If you have never been assigned an 'A' number in the past you would put 'NONE'. In the bottom area, you complete all the details and again put 'NONE when it asks for the Alien registration number.

It is always a good thing to remember that in reality all or most questions are applicable so the use of N/A should be used sparingly if it can and does have an answer.

Candace,

I-130:

- I'm curious as to why you would think that because they ask for the anwer to 1 question to be written in a certain way it means that they want the answers to other questions to be written in a different way.

- If a format is not specified - be it a date format or upper v lower case format - it might mean that there's no preference? In any event, it's always a good idea to use a format that's clear and unambiguous?

- Why does your spouse become 'not applicable' just because they're the petioner? Is there an instruction somewhere that says petitioners are not applicable? The question asks for your spouse's information, you have a spouse, why duck the question rather than provide the requested information?

G-325A:

- Is there something that says they want a particular case to be used in filling out the form? If so, follow the instruction.

- If a question asks about a spouse, and there is a husband or wife, what's the rationale for not answering the question?

- Why do you feel the question asking for A# not applicable for the I-130 but applicable for the G-325A? A good rule of thumb is to treat all questions as applicable, and if you believe that a question isn't applicable answer it with the reason why you think so.

Candace,

I can totally see where your coming from...I worry myself to STRESS because I annalize things to pieces. I hate it, it's true, and that's just how I am. I'm not dumb, I just need to remember to keep things simple. The people who made these forms/example forms just don't worry/think about the things we do, do they?

Anyways, after aussiewench's post, did you find waht you were looking for? Hope you made it. Bree

Aussiewench: Thanks ever so much! Forms are now done, that was a great help.

Yodrak: Whoa, thanks...I think. I did mention I thought the questions were probably a little silly. Aussiewench had already answered everything I asked in a comprehensive and polite format, but at least it gave you a chance to prove you're less stupid than me :)

Breezy: Yep, got it all completed and will be mailing off to Frankfurt within the next week or so. Looking forward to overanalyzing the next bunch of paperwork when that time comes!

Just for the record...

It is silly not to ask a question if you haven't got an answer....

I am glad you asked the questions and got the answers you needed. When I joined this forum I had soooooooooooo many questions and still have, and I am still asking....

This has nothing to do with your questions, but I just thought you should know that is better to ask any questions of any kind than assuming you know the answer and make mistakes...

Candace, Yodrak is Yoda-like. When you read his posts carefully, you'll always learn something, and I've found that his motivation is definitely NOT to make himself seem smarter than anyone else.

*I'm* guilty of that, though, so watch out for my posts. ;)

Best wishes for a speedy interview!

Candace,

My intent wasn't to answer your questions and I didn't (aussiewench did that). My intent was to try to guide your thinking. As breezy noted, but I'll state the converse, 'we' don't think like the people who created the forms. But it's their arena that we're operating in, so it behoves us to take their point of view.

That won't make all questions clear and easy to answer, but it will help take away some of the self-created confusion.

Thanks for your reply, I think I see where you were coming from and I apologise for 'snapping'.

I'll also apologise in advance that I'm bound to have another bunch of worrying and questions over a misplaced comma or something equally as silly once the next lot of paperwork comes around!
