There is some truth to that, but I would suggest that a lot of the time things are reported because the person doing it knows it will irritate the people they are reporting and result in a whispered cloak and dagger conversation like this one.

BTW - that's not me saying I reported this thread, or the 'EPIC rant' one - you guys will have to keep guessing I'm afraid ;-)

I just think it's funny how people only respect the TOS when it works in their favour and totally disregard it in the space of a few posts. Just this week - I've had someone invoke the TOS against me in a thread for suggesting that they are racist (What I actually said was that one of their posts came across that way). That poster, then thought it was perfectly fine to throw out a load of personal attacks that were clearly directed at me. I didn't report them, but then I didn't feel the need to start a veiled conversation about who might have done what. You see how that works?

IMO the fact that you (the general 'you') are likening people who use the report button with schoolyard 'rats' says a lot about the mentalities on display here.

The mods shouldn't tolerate any of it - but then they've created the situation with this draconian and onerous TOS enforcement. How much time must be spent reading BS on these boards for little more than someone calling someone else 'stupid' - trawling through threads that are pretty much dead to remove three or four posts, is that really worth someone's time?

VJ today isn't really any better than it was five years ago - the difference being that you can't write ######, #### or ####### for fear of offending someone's virgin eyes. Personally I think we (and the moderators) would be better off if they just let people go at it, ignore the BS and only respond to very serious issues - like someone threatening to do harm to another poster.
