This is very very very very important!!!!

No, you are not a citizen until you have taken the oath of citizenship.

They will recheck your eligibility to become a citizen after they schedule your oath. This means that they will check any trips that you have had outside the US between your interview and your oath, they will check any arrests that may have occurred after your interview but before your oath...

So you will be a permanent resident until you take the oath of citizenship. At that time they will take away your green card and they will give you a naturalization certificate which is the document that proves that you are an American citizen.

Until that time it would be illegal to claim on an official document or to a government official that you are a US citizen.

After you take your oath, you will be an American citizen with all the rights of an American citizen... except that you won't be able to run for president :-)

Mine did the same thing too. It use to say If not received by Feb 11 to make a follow up but now nothing. My husband said he will wait until Feb 11 as stated before and if after that still nothing, he will follow up. I truly hope it comes before Feb 11 though.

Well to those already done CONGRATS and to those still waiting--->I pray for smooth sailing from here on out and hope that we get our interview dates soon =)

Became a US citizen today!

Wonderful ceremony with 51 of us from 13 different countries, what a great experience! Ceremony was faster then I expected, had to be there at 12:50, judge came in around 1:30 and we were done by 2!

Just want to take a second to wish everyone good luck and make sure you soak up the ceremony when the time comes, it really is a once in a lifetime experience.

I'll be sticking around here and see how everyone else progresses through this last part of the journey!

Lollo how was your ceremony?

My ceremony was great. In Sacramento today we had almost 700 new citizen. We had to be there by 8.30 and USCIS collected all the green cards and some volunteers explained to us how to fill the forms for Soc.Security and to vote.

We officially started at 10 am and in 30 minutes we finished all.

After that we where in line to pick up our citizen certificate. By 11.30 I was done.

That's awsome experience. I also arrived early around 7:45 even though the appointment time is 8:30. i got seat in third row so you can imagine how early I am. Lolz ?but it's good cause we can leave early. I am from Burma (Myanmar) and only two person including me.

Lollo, even though we couldn't meet in person outside, I am glad I am attending oath ceremony with my VJ Sep friend together.

Now we have done my journey but I ll be here again to petition my mom. Good luck to all my fellow Sep filers. Yours is next. Be patient and everything will be alright. Thank you VJ, thank you all.

Hello Everybody, I am having troubles with my biometrics appointment. I filed my paperwork in the beginning of September. The check was cashed in 2 weeks later and then complete silence until November when I received yellow letter. I waited until Thanksgving to check my case status online to find out that apparently a biometric appt letter was mailed to me Nov. 11 but I never received. Following the procedure posted on the USCIS web site, I filed a request to receive a copy of the appointment. I received a confirmation saying that I should expect a reply from them by January 2, 2015. January 2 came and left without any response from the immigration services. I had to call USCIS January 5 and notify them that I still have to biometrics appt. A representative filed another request but sent it to a local office. I was told I should expect a reply within 14 days. After 17 days of waiting I called again and was told to wait to 2 more weeks. I am a little bit confused. Is this normal? Status online shows that my case was assigned to an officer but it has not yet been assigned for processing. Should I be concerned? Should I schedule an Infopass apt?

Hi Everyone,

I wanted some quick advice. I will be submitting my N-400 Sept 2015 (I just received approval on my I-751 today, woohoo!). I looked at the N-400 instructions and had a question about evidence. The instructions list the following:

If you are applying for naturalization on the basis of marriage to a U.S. citizen, send the following 4 items:

1. Evidence that your spouse has been a U.S. citizen for the last 3 years:

- Birth certificate (if your spouse never lost citizenship since birth); or

- Certificate of Naturalization; or

- Certificate of Citizenship; or

- The inside of the front cover and signature page of your spouse's current U.S. passport; or

- Form FS-240, Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America; and

2. Your current marriage certificate; and

3. Proof of termination of all prior marriages of your spouse (divorce decree(s), annulment(s), or death certificate(s)); and

4. Documents referring to you and your spouse:

- Tax returns, bank accounts, leases, mortgages, or birth certificates of children; or

- Internal Revenue Service (IRS)-certified copies of the income tax forms that you both filed for the past 3 years; or

- An IRS tax return transcript for the last 3 years.

So, my question is, for numbers 1 and 4, I only have to send one piece of evidence for each e.g. 3 years of tax transcripts will suffice for number 4.

Is this really the only evidence you need to put together? The I-751 was so burdensome in terms of evidence that I'm now wondering if the N-400 can be this straight forward.
