Grats Kzielu! Sounds like you had a nice ceremony, thank you so much for writing down a summary of your experience too. How long was the ceremony itself from start to finish?

Were walked in at 12:30pm, sitting everyone down, collecting green cards and letters took almost until 2pm, ceremony started at 2pm and I was out of there at 2:45pm being 26th to get certificate. Since everybody was taking pictures with the judge when handed the certificate, it was taking a while but I am guessing by 3:30pm everybody was done.

Also went to SSA office this morning - no need to wait, can go and update info immediately - USCIS officer at the ceremony was even encouraging people to give it a try a go right after ceremony since there was an office in the building across the street (saw people on VJ advising to wait ~10 days after ceremony before going to SS office)

I guess it depends on the individual Social Security offices. Because I know that several VJ members did try to go right after the ceremony or even a day or two later And they were told to come back after 10 days because the information had not been updated in their system yet. Apparently when you go in to update your data they check the USCIS database to see who was recently naturalized. Maybe some USCIS offices are just faster updating that database.

Because I know that several VJ members did try to go right after the ceremony or even a day or two later And they were told to come back after 10 days because the information had not been updated in their system yet. Apparently when you go in to update your data they check the USCIS database to see who was recently naturalized. Maybe some USCIS offices are just faster updating that database.

It's a good question why they refuse people - in my case it didn't look like he checked anything in any system - just made copy of certificate, changed data in their system (showed me printout showing Nationality : US) and that was it. Can't be certain though. Anyway - it's worth a try. Wanted to apply for a passport ASAP since may need to travel for work early in the year and wanted to have the SSA taken care of before that - worked well for me and now my brand new certificate is on its way to passport office - already has holes in it since it's been stapled to rest of paperwork by the lady in the OH title division where I applied for passport :).

I'm sure you will do fine Rachel. Just take some deep breath. What I did was going through the book about once a week for about a month. Used the cd once. And wrote out flashcards just because it helped me memorize writing them all out. The test was so much easier then I was expecting.

That's not going to be a problem as long as you can bring your tax returns and explain why you did not file jointly. You can file as "married, filing separately". It is only a problem if you filed as "single" while you were married.
