This time around it's just a month-long visit - I fly back to the states on the 19th for the citizenship interview on the 22nd. Then I'll remain for as long as it takes USCIS to schedule the oath ceremony (assuming the interview is successful of course!) and return for a longer spell (1-2 years). The plan is then to head stateside permanently with the wife sometime in 2016; who knows what'll happen in the meantime though.

Not a real ale man then, Pooksta? I had THE most delicious pint of Ringwood 49'er pre-match when I was down in Southampton for the WBA game - 'twas divine.

And Gillette Soccer Saturday is absolutely still the daddy of footie shows. They had Chris Kamara at Upton Park on Saturday and the exchange between him and Stelling (which was basically a monologue due to the fact that Kamara's headphones weren't working properly and he was completely oblivious to the fact that he was on air and being laughed at) was pure comedy gold!

Mmmm real ale!

Did you ever see Soccer Saturday when Kamara didn't realise someone had been sent off a few years ago? I nearly cried laughing so much

I used to go to CAMRA 's Pompey Beerex at the Guildhall in Portsmouth and give the real cider some trade. OK, I gave them enough trade that the guys who usually worked the stand remembered me from year to year. :)

I remember when Clueless Chris Kamara used to play for Pompey. I'm getting old. :(

I am in UK now and heading back to the states this afternoon and am not really looking forward to being back in the land of carbonated beer at all. Apart from seeing the missus of course.

You really do have the best of both worlds, Nobbie, with living in the states and work bringing you home (presumably all expenses paid) regularly. Damn, that situation would be ideal for me!!!

You' need to broaden your horizons if you think all beer over here is carbonated #######. The Miller Coorsweiser stuff is utter garbage, but there's some great beers over here. Fat Tire and Sierra Nevada instantly spring to mind (don't know where you're based, and not sure of the availability of those country wide). I'm also spoilt as I have a brew pub just down the road that is now my local. It's run by a family originally from reading. Called English Ales, they do some awesome brews!

Agreed, and it's even better now that microbreweries have really started taking off. There are some quality beers to be found if you're willing to give them a go!
