Hi,

I am a native of Cameroon and a lawful U.S. permanent resident since February 2011. My fiancee, also from Cameroon, is now a French resident living and working in France. We have plans to get married in December 2015 which is the best timeframe which will suit all of our schedules. Once married, I would like to bring my wife to the U.S with an immigrant visa. So our plan goes like this:

November 2015: I will start citizenship application (given 90-days early application rule)

December 2015: Get married. Marriage ceremony will likely take place outside of the U.S. either in Cameroon or in France. Note that I'd still be a LPR when I'll be getting married.

Assuming naturalization process goes smoothly, I plan to file Form I-130 and begin consular processing immediately after my naturalization is approved.

Does anyone have similar experiences? I'd appreciate any feedback.

When you choose to get married is entirely up to the both of you. However, I would like to point out that you don't need to be a USC to petition for her as your spouse. You can perfectly submit the I-130 while you are an LPR, this way the petition would run it's course while you are naturalizing.

When you become a USC, then you notify USCIS of this, if your petition has been approved you would notify the NVC, and they can begin processing your case as CR1. It takes about 5 to 6 months to become a USC, and if you petition her as an LPR, the petition would have a 5 month old or longer PD by the time you are a USC, which means the petition would be approved soon after notifying them of your USC.
