Because it's the bootstrap theory 2.0. By saying it's all on you, it stops folks from looking at all the other issues. All you have to do is be better than everyone else.

Spooks and I talked about this recently. It's sad that we have to adopt a philosophy of being the best there is in order to get a foot in the door.

basically, it would be really convenient if inequality wasn't a part of the conversation, ever. seems most people are tired of hearing about it. slavery is old news. so let's all pretend like inequality doesn't really matter, because afterall inequality doesn't matter until it affects my ability to be personally responsible negatively. so what if it might be a real obsticle for some unfortunate lot that can't seem to get it together. what do i care?

So... then you're posting about it because you want to have a dig at black posters perhaps?

Yep that's it. I'm out to get the black posters here. You're so perceptive.

I think I'd have less of an issue with it if it weren't presented in a way that said:

"Look. Here's a black man who agrees with me, therefore I am right".

We all know what NB is doing. It shouldn't take away completely from the kids point.

Sure. I just don't think its a very good place from which to start this conversation.

Seriously, is no one else tired of the constant race baiting and thinly veiled prejudice being given voice here? This has been going on for weeks and weeks.

Change the effing record.

FOR the record, it is not the only video of a black with that same message (though perhaps worded differently). No one said "I am right because a black agrees with me" except Hail Ming.

How do you know what NB is doing? Looks to me like he posted a video of a black man who is tired of people using excuses to not get out of their personal ruts. Do you think NB is in a rut, and this guy is an inspiration to him?

I tried to change the record. I asked for a stay on this type of topic until 7 Sep. But here we are again...

Only one problem with that theory. Valid claims of racism get mixed in with all the noise. When folks blame every negative thing that happens to black people on racism, after awhile people just tune it out. That's where I'm at anyway. I guess I'm a racist, and you know what? IDGAF.

My guess is it won't have much effect at all, at least statistically. Personally I don't think that the crime rate will go up because of it as some do. And it may not go down either, time will tell. I don't know how much of a deterrent an armed public is. The death penalty certainly didn't do anything to deter crime. But then again, maybe if enough bad guys got shot, it would make some think twice before victimizing someone. I really have no idea.

We know the numbers before CC, and we'll be able to compare them in the future. I personally don't think it will have much of an impact.

On Tuesday, the Chicago Police Department announced that the city experienced its lowest murder rate since 1958 in the first quarter of 2014. There were 6 fewer murders than the same timeframe in 2013 — a 9 percent drop — and 55 fewer murders than 2012, police said.

Further, there were reportedly 90 fewer shootings and 119 fewer shooting victims compared to last year. There have also been 222 fewer shootings and 292 fewer shooting victims compared to the first quarter in 2012.

All crime is down 25 percent from 2013 and police say they have confiscated over 1,300 illegal guns in the last three months.

Now, it’s entirely too soon to conclude that the concealed carry law is partly responsible for Chicago’s across-the-board drop in the crime. However, it is not unreasonable to conclude the drop in crime may undercut gun control advocates’ argument that more guns equal more crime.

i don't think you're racist. but whatever.

i'm honestly starting to think that this really comes down to your personal experience with 'the black community'. i don't have any experience with 'the black community'. where i live, things are pretty divided but they're divided by class - not race. and out here, nowadays anyway, folks (white and black) tend to have a bigger bone to pick with 'illegals' than they do anything else.

out of all my friends and acquaintences over the years, i've never heard a single person blame racism for every negative thing that happens in their lives. ever.

You just said that you don't care about the issue. What other conclusion is left to reach?

My view is that if a person watches too much TV news these are the sort of assumptions that are made.

see, in this paragraph - you start talking about the 'black community' then shift to your attention to people who live in poverty. you really don't care to have any actual understanding or knowledge on race relationship and class in this country, none of it affects you, you have zero sympathy.

What's your understanding on the issue? What are YOU doing to improve race relations? Do you have any black folks in your family? Neighborhood? Social group(s)?

Not asking this as an attack, but I am trying to ascertain how you have the right to condemn someone else's understanding or knowledge on a subject without proving yer own bona fides. And perhaps if you DO have some crucial insights, you can share them with us; perhaps someone will read what you say and get something out of it, just like the video had some good points?

my understanding is that i do not subscribe to the bootstrap theory. it's not so simple in my opinion.

bona fides, that's funny. i'm going to answer your questions, not because i think they're valid questions or that the answers matter - because they don't. here ya go: i'm not doing anything to improve race relations, except carrying myself to my own standard (that's all anyone can do). i have black people in my family, i guess if you're taking mixed race as 'black people'. i have black neighbors. but i don't talk to or hang out with any of my neighbors. i have black friends but none that i see or talk to on a daily basis, unless you count facebook.

and i post here all the time. but i'd love to see me put up a questionable video from a leftist you tube channel and see how serious and contemplative everyone gets. lol.

Dave, I'm positive Val is down with the struggle more than some black people I know. She comes from a diverse background, it's been covered here a few years ago.

“Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.” – Coretta Scott King

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

Here's the rub, Val.... inequality will never be erased, period. It exists in all countries, among all peoples, and at multiple levels. Do you think you and I have it as easy as one of the "1 percenters" in the US? We are far from equal in so many ways. Now compare us to someone from the Philippines or Africa. It would seem that you and I are the ones who have it all; money, motivation, opportunity, etc. The only way for the playing field to be level for everyone is for everyone to put everything they have in a pile and share it. Ain't gonna happen, no way, no how.

That doesn't make you a bad person for having more than someone else, it's just the way it is. Women have some preferences that men don't have, and vice versa. It's just the way the world is. Can we make it better? Yes, but only on a personal level. You can't change the world, the government, nor the way blacks are viewed as a whole by society. You can only do what's right in your own little world. Would that you (or I) COULD make a big difference. I just don't see it happening. I hope someone can prove me wrong.
