No, one persons experience doesn't negate anything. IMO, the young man in this video touched upon the major stereotypes that people have concerning blacks. We can go back and look at the statistics for murder, percentage of black males in prison, etc etc. This is the image that a lot of people seem to have about blacks, even up here in the North with all of us liberals. The black doctors, lawyers, businessmen etc aren't the people this kid was referring to. In my largely white immediate area and surrounding towns, the blacks are largely professionals and living in white neighborhoods in houses costing from 500K and up, some in the millions. These are not the people contributing to the negative image.

If we go to Brockton, Mattapan, etc, we'll see more of the stereotyped people he is calling out. I'm sorry, but I can't blame the things that are wrong in my life on what my parents didn't do 40 years ago, it's all on me. I am responsible for me, what I do and how I interact with others. Doing drugs is a choice. Robbing people is a choice. having 6 kids with 5 different men is a choice. And this applies to all races, not just blacks.

Agreed, most of the time the negative stereotype applies to all blacks, and that isn't fair. I think the problem with the poster child images for blacks is the percentages. An abnormally high percentage of young black men are in prison. There are a lot of single parent families who are white too, but which race has the higher percentage? I honestly don't know, so I'm asking. Which has the most children with multiple fathers? Again, I don't know.

I know that where whites go, one bad apple doesn't spoil the barrel, and it is sad that it has become that way where blacks are concerned. I asked this question last night, I would like to see crime states prior to 1960 where blacks are concerned and see if they changed at all, ie, percentage of prison population, murders, etc.

I know that racism still exists and I know that blacks and other races are stereotyped daily. But no one is going to convince me that is the main reason why someone commits a crime. You may encounter prejudice when it comes to getting a job and a white person gets hired even though you are more qualified. But that doesn't make you sell drugs, do drugs or commit crimes. All I'm saying is that there are personal choices being made. You made good ones, others make poor ones. Ditto for whites, Hispanics, Asians, etc.
