I was reading some of those interview thread and now I am worried to death!

When mr and my fiance got engaged, we discuss whether going through the fiance route or the husband route and he said he definitely did not want the fiance route because he would not be able to work when he arrive here in the U.S and he is a man and he has to .....yadiyadah! We wives know how the story goes. I did not have a problem with that, but I did not want to get married in Haiti because my entire family is here. So we compromise to doing a court wedding between the two of us and two close cousins and a friend of mine as witnesses AND when he comes - we will have the dream CHURCH wedding I always wanted and I would even request a visitor's visa for his mom to come (3 month after he comes). We have the court wedding, pictures, ring exchange and all this staff. I am really worried about a consular asking why his mommy who is in Haiti was not at the wedding? Or am I frustrating myself over nothing. (Oh may I add, as Christian we also saved the consummation of our wedding until the church ceremony also.

It's 50/50 on whether or not a CO will inquire why his mom was not at the courthouse, people have reasons. I'm not familiar with Haitian culture in regards to weddings so I can't say one way or the other if her absence is meaningful or not.

You don't request a tourist visa for his mom, she will have to apply for one on her own. Whether or not she is granted one will depend on her ties to Haiti. Conventional wisdom indicates the odds of her being granted a tourist visa are not in her favor.

I've seen lots of talk about consummation on these forums. As far as immigration is concerned, consummation means you spent a night together. What you actually did during that night is your own business.

Is there any way at all we can send it anyway or print out a new one that they have sent by email? I know it's meant to be original but I can't go through taht again.. or can we fill it in as the preparer and attach the previous one to show that we are just sending a new one signed in black ink but scanned? This is all hopeless isn't it and I just have to ask them to sign it in black ink and send again, don't I? Literally in tears I am so frustrated why are there so many ways to eff this up?

Blue ink is completely fine. I suggest it over using black, personally ;)

Groooannnn... parents-in-law didn't sign in black ink but used blue. Send anyway? We have waited 2 weeks for this paperwork and another wait is just a horrifying prospect

I read in another thread that someone used a pen with really liquid ink (like the typical "Uni-ball Vision" pens) and wrote over the signature with that in black.

Good luck!

It also says to use all capital letters, but not a lot of people do that either ;)

We signed in blue ink for everything and had no issues. Personally, to me, a signature in blue ink looks more real than in black as black may appear to be a photocopy (and I've seen checklists for suspicions on that).

Hello Everyone,

My first post! I've been on here for a few months sporadically in this process getting loads of good advice :) so..thank you! We are just in the NVC process ourselves. I submitted the DS-261 on July 13th 2014....aaaannd still no IV bill invoiced :(

I think i've made a few mistakes after reading a lot of forums and reading about people getting checklists, so i wanted to see what you guys think about it all.

Mistake #1: On the Form I-864EZ, we left a few spots blank. Like Part 3, #9 - place of residence (if diff't from mailing). Also left Name of second employer blank since there's only one employer.

Mistake #2: Signed the form I-864EZ in blue ink! Thought this would be best because we filed using electronic processing. But re-read the instructions and realised they do specifically say black ink.

Mistake #3: On the ceac website, on august 23rd, clicked on the DS-261 link! Argh. Went from complete to incomplete. So i re-completed it, but I didn't get an email from NVC, so i'm hopeful that they are still just considering the july 13th date for submitting the ds-261. I read on the August NVC thread, that the resetting of the date was a glitch and it seems to be fixed - i'm hopeful of this since I don't want to be set back 60 days from august 23rd! I am planning to call NVC to double check next week.

So with the above mistakes, I am resigning myself for a checklist for our AOS package. Since we haven't even submitted the IV package yet, i'm guessing the timeline will be similar for approval of both packages even with a potential checklist. Really really hopeful for a december interview date, but am prepared for a January one...it would really suck if it's later than that!

Anyways, just wanted to post and let you guys know where my husband and I are at. I know that we are luckier than most since my husband is in seattle and I live in Vancouver and we do get to see each other every weekend...but it's hard when we're the only ones in our social circle going through this. However, it has been helpful and encouraging to see how helpful everyone is each other in this slow excruiciating beurocratic process!

Your mistake #2...is my costly 60 day wait. I was told by NVC I have to wait 60 days for them to verify the papers I resigned in black ink..is indeed black ink.. to get my case complete. :bonk: I used a black pen. They said it looked Navy blue to them.

I have a question about Form I-864 and sorry if this is dumb but I just want to make sure.......On part 5 question 2 the online form does not let me enter "1" to include myself. Is it ok if after I print the form I put "1" with a pen? or how did you guys enter "1" to count yourself?

I remember reading something about a code that gets printed out at the bottom of every page so NVC scans that and it automatically inputs all the info on the form into their system somehow. I just wanna make sure because I don't want us to get checklisted for something as simple as this.

Thanks!!

Hi

YOu have to open the form in adobe reader. Some browsers let you see the form but it is not the right one. You probably don't see the bar code on the bottom of each page either

You got a checklist for signing in blue ink?

yes I did. they were firm on the phone. they told me it is a legal contract and has to be signed in black ink. they told me that was the ONLY thing wrong with my I864. And then they told me when I send it, i have to wait 60 days before I can call back and ask. They will get a hold of me! She even had her supervisor confirm it ..that it was the reason I had a checklist as my checklist was blank. 2 days after my call,, I received the checklist saying I had to sign in black ink.. and that was the ONLY thing on it! <_<

yes I did. they were firm on the phone. they told me it is a legal contract and has to be signed in black ink. they told me that was the ONLY thing wrong with my I864. <_<

Ugh. It's all so confusing as to what they decide requires a checklist or not. Clearly people have submitted the 864 in both blue and black ink and for most either seems fine but occasionally, there may be an issue with one or the other as with you. Well, I've already submitted our form..so i'm just in the wait and see game and hopefully, I get someone who reviews our application and doesn't find us signing in blue ink an issue!

this is from my checklist. .everything else was empty. they said this is all they could find. I understand but I don't. Considering my first checklist was I added income and assets together, and checked a wrong box. I understand that. I sent the corrections in, even signed in black ink. They claim it was not black ink. Not sure why. I have been at NVC a long time. Then they said my husband had undeliverable email address? We use it everyday. It works fine. Even had them verify they had it wrote down correctly. Just tired of the process. It has been a long journey so far.

 I think you may be the first person I've seen that has gotten a checklist solely cause you signed in blue ink...

That's just ridiculous... :bonk:
