Hey everyone, so, I am filling the form I-130 and I-145 with the others, green card through marriage.

I got married last week, and My name for me always was like ''Jane <given Herrera <middle name Santos<last name/familyname''

but the woman at the clerk told me in my brazilian passport my surname was ''Herrera Santos'' and given name Jane, so she said i have 2 last names and Herrera is one of my last names not my middle name.... is that right? or was she wrong?

So now when i am filling form and they ask for other names used, instead of fill ''SANTOS, Jane Herrera . I gonna have to fill ''SANTOS-HERRERA , Jane'' ??

please help i am filling on my own and need to know what should i do

(My maiden name is stated in the marriage certificate as Jane <given Herrera <middle name Santos<last name/familyname'' and the new name is Jane<given, Herrera<middle , Charliston <new surname from husband)

but in the passport is listed ''surname: Herrera Santos. given name: Jane''

Something similar happened to me with the old and new names since in Spain we have 2 last names. Here they put one of them as the middle name everywhere and I just keep saying its 2 last names but they dont get it.

So I just filled the papers I-130 and 485 with my new married name and when it sayd maiden name or other names used I use the one in my passport. So you probably need to use the one for the birth certificate.

I went to the bank and they took my name from the passport and put 1 of my last names as my middle name and now my debit card doesnt match my Spanish ID.

Im just keeping my given name and my husbands last name. No middle name not my 2 spanish last name I think it will be too much confusion for documents

why moved if is about green card through marriage=family?

The forums are divided by which type of visa you are adjusting FROM, not the basis for your current adjustment of status. K visas are family visas (I think), Bs, VWP, F1s, H1Bs and all the other types of visas go under "Work, Student & Tourist Visas"

Now, I am not sure why your thread was moved, as I do not know what visa you are adjusting from.

It is about what visa you entered the US with and are adjusting from. How you answer the questions on the forms about your current status and last entry would be the visa you are adjusting from. If you are adjusting from a family based visa such as the K-1, then you would not need to file an I-130. It is a slightly different process with different requirements, so there are separate forums for each.

The person who told you that was not wrong. Brazilians don't usually have middle names. Your passport says you have two last names, those are the ones you have to use as your last names. When you fill out any legal forms you have to enter them as they appear on your passport, until you change it.

For a little background: when I moved to the US eight years ago I never realized this would be a problem because old Brazilian passports listed the full name without separating First/Middle/Last. Then, people used to think my name was First/Middle/Last when it was actually First/Last/Last and I had a hard time fighting that uphill battle to get them to understand it.

The new passports (starting 2010/2011) separate first and last names, and since I got a new one I've had to change everything (including my SSC, driver's license, etc) to reflect that. It's still confusing to Americans that people can have two non-hyphenated last names. I'm actually trying to drop my second last name because of it.

Thank you so much, that really helped me, What I am going to do so is use my new name as it is stated in my marriage certificate with Jane<given Herrera< middle Charliston< last

and for other names used I am going to put HERRERA-SANTOS Jane and as well put SANTOS Jane Herrera

would that be alright to do? cause in my marriage certificate i filled ''SANTOS Jane Herrera as my name, but in my passport appears ''HERRERA SANTOS'' Jane.
