traveling before receiving green card

Sorry if I'm posting this question in the wrong topic but hello everyone,

my husband has been in the US for over 2 weeks, he has received his social security card (after going to the SS office ourselves) and he got his license and he has a job since last Wednesday. Now my question is, can he leave the US without the actual green card because he has go to to his brother's wedding September 20th and will be coming back the 30th...

The consul at the embassy recommended that he wait for his actual card... has anybody tried to leave and come back without the card?

So as I understand it, your husband is waiting to receive his actual 'hard copy' Green Card in the mail?

In my case, last Tuesday was my AOS interview; they stamped an I-551 in my passport which functions as a temporary green card while waiting for the real thing to arrive in the mail. The EAD combo card, that your husband may have received so that he can legally work and travel while waiting for the AOS interview, would be considered invalid if he has had his AOS interview and is waiting for his Green Card. If your husband has an I-551 stamp in his passport, he'll be good to go - I've already travelled on mine! If not, he will likely need to make an InfoPass appt to the local USCIS service center near you, and inquire about getting an I-551 stamped his his passport.

He has no EAD since he entered on an immigrant visa, and did not obtain permanent residency through adjustment of status as you did.
